overall not worth it

Work from home. Work is fairly steady. Contacts at Speakwrite try to be helpful
Ridiculously insulting low pay. Half-a-cent per word is untenable. Formatting requirements have improved recently, but are still far too onerous. No support provided when clients are rude, provide inaudible dictation, or give little to no instructions.

Raise the pay rate. You are raising what you charge clients but never passing that onto the people who generate your income. Demand higher standards from the clients regarding the quality of their dictation.

EXCELLENT FOR XTRA INCOME
Excellent in terms of technology. Quickly respond to concerns/issues. Super organized system so $$ is applied as soon as job is finished, updated technology makes it easy to navigate. Most kinks/critiques posted here can be overcome once you are long-term - as it all becomes 2nd nature.
Low Pay. BUT if you can, work only when bonuses are offered -- this helps. Ingenious that they make it so typists can't communicate with each other (unless in a monitored forum); hence we could jointly strike for higher pay.

Pay excellent typists more money regularly. It wouldn't hurt to be more friendly during exchanges with your typists - (a Happy Holidays or good job, couldn't hurt)

High Expectations for low pay
Some of the people in contractor support are very helpful.
As mentioned in other reviews, this company expects a high skillset in Microsoft Word, English grammar and typing speed. To expect so much and pay so little is discouraging. To be expected to apply, memorize or refer to hundreds of conflicting and contradicting typing, formatting and grammar rules is not worth the slave wages they pay. The level of expertise required to successfully perform the transcriptions should be paid at a much higher wage. The pay is not commensurate with the experience required. I find the proofreader’s comments rude, condescending and inaccurate. There are far better work from gigs than this. This company wants the cream of the crop but pay is at the bottom of the barrel. You could literally spend two hours on transcriptions and get paid less than $5. Don’t waste your time.

Please work on how you support your typists in-job. The manual itself is very confusing. And, when one seeks help through help tickets, no help is offered, most just send a link to the confusing manual and that's about it. I think the company has decent potential, however their tact with employees and offering typists support on how to interpret the manual would help greatly.

Working from home is nice
Working for such little pay stinks. I type 70 wpm and would schedule myself for 12 hours/day, 7 days/wk. My average biweekly check was around $1000. That averages out to around $5.95/hour. That aside, there are worse things about this company. First, if a proofreader (PR) determines you have made too many mistakes on a job (which is subjective and ambiguous), they can elect to redo the job and you won't get paid for it.....even if you advise them you can't understand a single word of what the person dictating is saying! You have ZERO control over what jobs you get and you only get 2 1.2 times the length of a job to complete it before you start harassing you. For example, if a job is 10 minutes long, you get 25 minutes to complete it. They do quite a bit of workers' comp work, so there is a lot of medical terminology. You'll be told not to take the time to look up how to spell it, but if you spell it wrong, you'll receive a poor grade. Oh yes, you're graded on your jobs. Too many poor grades and you get nasty emails. After that, they can terminate your contract. Also, you're expected to make notes to the PRs to justify why you did something a certain way. Trust me when I say you can spend your entire allotted time explaining yourself. And the PRs don't always agree. You can do something a certain way on one job and be marked down for it. So the next time, you do it the way you were told to and be marked down for doing it wrong again. Even their own online help manual (OLH) contradicts itself. Finally, you have to schedule your hours in advance. You have to be at your computer the entire time, even if there's not work (and usually without pay). You have to ask to take a break and they will only give it to you if a certain amount of time has passed since you started that day (I think it was 10 minutes of break after 4 hours of work). If you want to be treated like a servant, this is the job for you. For the rest of us who like to be treated with dignity, I would say "RUN!!!"
