Your schedule as middle management is extremely bad for work-life balance. All evenings and weekends so your life quickly becomes Sprinkles since your only time outside of work are weekday mornings; bad for social life, family life, personal time, personal errands. Most general managers from each location are pretty good but if you get stuck with a bad one, you are on your own as corporate does not care and does not personally assess what they hear from the manager. Corporate's way of checking in is weekly meetings with general managers and horrendous long trainings. You are not heard by your superiors about any issue you might bring up, whether it is about you as an individual employee or something that might help the company or your specific location. You are constantly receiving instructions by people who are not part of production or customer facing and most of the time and it is very clear. Wages for their California branches do not reflect cost of living, as middle management you are being paid almost exactly what your subordinates receive. This company is so low on profits it is felt by every level of employee, they deal with it with low wages and desperate discounts that they inform you about day of, even if it creates discrepancies in the sales and staffing you have prepared for. Corporate is extremely hands off, it is a tiny company and they do not know the names of their management team, they have very poor relationships with them and are not interested in their growth or their slightest feedback. The company's expectations of you as an employee are those of someone who works at a well-oiled, bespoke, well paid position and communicating that with overly friendly corporate language, while treating you and paying you as any other mall snack employee.
