It was a startup in San Francisco, so there were a few fringe perks like a keg (which was taken away), snacks (which were taken away), and some team outings.
|
I don't even know where to begin...so I won't. What started off so promising just went up in flames due to tremendously awful management.

Great people and fun environment. Lots of good intentions and nice location in the heart of the Financial District. Snacks and drinks provided as well.

Company is in transition as they decide the business strategy going forward. There have been layoffs and many long time employees have left.

Good location, with a lot of food trucks, restaurants and Philz around.
Unlimited vacation, say it, and you can have 1 month paid-off.
A lot of free time, do whatver you want, take a walk, learn something cool by yourself, they don't push you.

The team is not doing anything right. Management guys never tell the truth, a lot of people left or going to leave.
The product sucks, they don't even know what's going on themselves and still working on dumb and weird ideas. With 2 apps and 1 website, we have a lot of managers staying there, and i don't know what their work is even after left.
So basically, they just working on something that nobody is using.
There're 2 types of people still there:
1. You are not good enough to find another job.
2. You are going to retire and just wanna relax.
That's it.

Management is utterly C L U E L E S S. This point cannot be stressed enough. They have little to no understanding of the market or their competitors.
Lots of employees have been laid off or quit recently. Morale in the company is beyond low.
The product/app is so bad that nobody wants to use it. They had to beg employees to participate.
The professional athletes who post in the app don't want to do it and are only participating for business reasons.
They don't take care of their employees the way other companies in SF/Silicon Valley does. There are virtually zero perks. Several other people have mentioned unlimited vacation but that's practically an industry standard across the board these days.
The company embraces this archaic "LOOK LIKE YOU'RE WORKING HARD" rhetoric and its laughable. They want everyone in their seats at 8:30am and to not leave until 5:30pm regardless of how well you're doing your job.
If you exhibit the good ole boy "pull yourself up by your bootstraps and work hard" attitude... even if you're disingenuous in doing so, you'll be rewarded for it.
Employees openly joke about how terrible the company is as long as no one from upper management is within earshot.

Several of the negative reviews mention difficulties with the CTO. The CTO position changed hands in mid 2016, so any reviews prior to that date which stress that topic are no longer up-to-date.
There is a new focus on standardizing and improving the deploy process with a container-based system that looks promising.

There is a legacy code base that can be somewhat difficult to dance around. However, there is also a new focus on identifying pain points and replacing them.
