Co-workers ranging from brilliant to luminary genius. Often, actual implementations of what results from cutting-edge research, were performed using methodology and technology stacks that are either obsolete, or something bordering on academic projects. Not much standardization across the board, which leaves a developer scrambling to learn new things, but things that will not likely be worth learning say, 5 years later. Also: high reliance on government funding for programs, leaves the entire enterprise vulnerable to being a political football.
