At Starschema, people are in focus. Starschema wants happy people who work passionately, so Starschema cares about its employees passionately. It's not just the office massage, the yoga classes, or the unlimited gym pass. Or the fruit days twice a week (with seeds! :) or the kitchen with five-star hotel hot drink supplies. Or the flexible working hours, the contribution to commuting, and the possibility to work from home. (Ohh, and did I mention the X-box and the table tennis and table football?) But all these would not matter if the culture wasn't based on good-fellowship. Friendliness, team spirit, and serving one-another are actively promoted and supported. No wonder that info travels fast in this organization, and response time is low. If I need sg. from a colleague, I get it. And all means for continuous learning are also provided. You can even make mistakes while you grow if you own up to them. Your head will never be bitten off here.

Just left the company due to relocation but I left with a feeling that I actually got a lot from it and only gave.

First by the word of mouth you hear it is the best company in data field in Budapest. Then soon after you join the company you meet its lightmotive, one of its founders. Somehow you manage to get some tasks from him to be done in ETL tool you never ever heard of and next thing you know the guy is investing his time to enthusiastically teach you (you = nobody, 1 of his 200 employees) where to click and how to use the tool. Than you think what the heck and actually understand why the company grew from 2 to 200 at a lightning speed and why everybody would honestly like him to buy a yacht from their work. Next, you find yourself in one of many technical trainings company is organizing, you sit there, salary is coming to your bank account, you hear the bings, while another lightmotive, The God of Talend, is transfering to you years of the wisdom he collected for free! So all that sweat and tears you get just like that in a structured and easily digestible way. Than finally you get the long term project! Trivialities like flexible hours, home office days etc make your life wonderful of course and you use them heavily, but whats the most wonderful is that you get the opportunity to work with the best tools available for incredibly smart clients, engineers, super passionate about their work and the ideas they have are endless and final products very useful. You also find yourself surounded by the most amazing developers crew (from SS), who really start to make your soul happy when you see how friendly, smart, resourceful and diligent they are. You also have the leader and senior colleagues that are always there to assist you and give the best onboarding ever. At this point you realise - this is exactly what I wished for!

Now, after this ode, to be completely honest I admit there is also a downside, but its not Starschema specific. It is Hungarian company...meaning that apart from foreign clients it also serves some local companies. If you are not Hungarian like me this is a no go! Technical collaboration with Hungarian businesses is absolutely always a nightmare, inefficient, sloppy and sometimes even completely meaningless and the budget to cover this is of course always nonexistent. If you find yourself in this kind of project you will see 2 things: on one side there are guys, usually including first line managers, that dont have the capacity to take on responsibility or high product quality is very very blurry on their map, they will pretend that everything is fine, ignoring the issues and hoping that client wont notice. On the other side there are the responsible ones, they will turn to unhealthy defense mechanisms and go completely of the rails...so it can get pretty frustrating especially if your work is huge source of satisfaction for you. I can safely guess that this is local businesses thing as I had completely opposite experiences with clients from other countries. Now, I guess that locals are more accustomed to this dinamic and can accept the participation in it more easily. So...my advice would be that if you are local you cannot make mistake with this company, it is definetely country's creme de la creme data engineers bunch. If you are foreigner, better go with projects for foreign clients which there are many in Starschema and avoid taking on semi finished developments from other colleagues. This way you can really have the best experience ever!

- You can work on a lot of project and learn very fast
- Management helps if you feel bad in your current assignment (to a certain point)
- Presence in the US and in the EU with (mostly long term) travel possibilities
- Company values are strong and while you contribute to the growth of the company you will get you recognition
- Extremely helpful colleges and a company culture that promotes knowledge sharing
- C-level management is reachable and if you contact them with a valid point they will empower you to contribute
- Work-life balance is all right. You are expected to be agile (can have late evening meetings with US clients), but most managers/team leads don't care when you arrive in the morning

- It's a consulting company - you are expected to constantly prove yourself to non-competent corporate mid-managers
- Even thou there is an initiate to be an end-to-end consulting company, the main profile of the company is still body shopping
- Can be very unstructured sometimes and it takes some experience to figure out your personal goals
- The transformation from a small startup to a mid-sized company has taken a toll on the employee experience: company events are no longer fun (corporate style), very rare and low cost team buildings, no-dog policy (even thou the office building allows it)
- Career advancement is non-transparent and quite limited
- Struggles to keep up with raising Hungarian salaries

Try to find, define and properly advertise Starschema's unique competitive advantage. Besides focusing on keeping the company alive with the current growth, try to take a step back and define what the company is good at. The "we are good at everything, too" approach is not going to work over 200 employees, because you cannot price it properly and you will keep running with low margin. Because of this you will fall back to the same issue of the whole C-level management focusing on sales to keep the company alive instead of setting the right processes for long-term growth.
