I left much more informed about what it would take to succeed both in the startup world as well as the business world. At that time, internal mentor ship did not seem like a big priority as they were trying to scale as fast as possible. I would not call this a con, just had to write something in this category to put the review up. 1.0 POSITIVE 1.0 APPROVE 0.0 5.0 4.0 5.0 5.0 0.0 0.0 710424 Open 0.0 [] INTERN No No 1.0 Apr 23rd, 2021 06:58PM Apr 23rd, 2021 06:58PM Startup Institute
private:startupinstitute https://www.glassdoor.com?employer_id=710424 May 6th, 2018 12:00AM Open Open Startup Institute Web Developer Illegal Practices - They sell the program pretty hard on potential "students" as well as companies looking to hire. - Their SI events throw a free drink or two for current cohorts & alumni. - Most of their "insider chats" are somewhat motivating and you'll see where some people came from - You'll get 1 or 2 really good instructors for your hard-skills classes - They straight up lie about their selling points. Also they claimed ~90% of their cohorts get a job within the first month of finishing the program. After running the numbers, less than 50% of cohorts get a job, which may or may not include a paycheck (most pay in "experience") - They keep tabs on you. CLOSE TABS. Like what others are saying, they'll try and slap a hiring fee on companies hiring candidates who happen to have an SI connection. This is double-dipping, as you, the "student" pay $9,500 for the program. This caused a lot of SI-Alumn to lose potential jobs since the potential employers were discouraged from hiring us. - The hard-skills classes are usually run by former Alumni, less than a year into their fields. We've had hungover instructors come in without a proper lesson set up. One even admitted he was roped into the situation after beers the night before. - Unfortunately, some instructors condescend each other in terms of proper practices. Some instructors even knew less than some of our cohorts, and the cohorts had to step up and lead the class/assist their classmates. - SI isn't a certified school, so ignore the fact that they're calling you students, the statement that they are a school, "Curriculum" (there isn't any) and "instructors". - Although they claim transparency, you get a sense that the employees don't trust each other, especially when you see them grimacing/jeering. - Whenever there's an issue, concerning an SI staff employee, they try and bury it, fast, which includes threats and burn notices to whoever points out the issue. - Some former cohorts had to leave the state to avoid SI's connections. - Due to the CEO mishandling the program and his employees, he's let go everybody in the company other than his friend. They've announced that SI is planning on closing it's doors this year due to upcoming criminal/civil cases. With no staff support, you won't get much bang for your buck -1.0 NEGATIVE -1.0 NEGATIVE -1.0 DISAPPROVE 4.0 1.0 3.0 2.0 1.0 1.0 1.0 710424 Open - Don't throw beer and/or threats at your problems - When claiming you're transparent, be transparent - Get the course properly certified and hire professional instructors - Don't Double-Dip (charging students, potential hiring companies) - Stop drinking on the job 0.0 [] No No 2.0 Apr 23rd, 2021 06:58PM Apr 23rd, 2021 06:58PM Startup Institute

You HAVE to be proactive in reaching out to contacts in the SI network for coffee chats and additional information about the area you are interested in. You must come to this program with specific goals and trajectory in mind, otherwise, you are "buying" and wasting precious time. 1.0 APPROVE 2.0 4.0 0.0 5.0 3.0 0.0 0.0 710424 Open 0.0 [] REGULAR No Yes 0.0 Apr 23rd, 2021 06:58PM Apr 23rd, 2021 06:58PM Startup Institute

Made me a more active participant in my own story and trajectory. There is a lack of structure for alumni. The staff is more concerned with their incoming and present classes than with their alumni.
