Great people to work with, challenging work
|
Much longevity at the organization, which says a lot about the culture, work, and management. The organization relies a great deal on volunteers. There is not much opportunity for advancement and salaries in some positions cause turnover.

excellent room for advancement. A learning culture and friendly employees. I found that management showed a lot of favoritism, over actual productivity and work product. Mostly a fair and good place to work with a few bad apples thrown in the mix

Great place to work.

I worked for 4 years at the State Bar and was able to make great friends and got promoted 3 time while employed there. The State Bar acts like a governmental agency but it is self funded. Regulated by the Supreme Court of Texas.

It's about the people.

The State is a great place to work on the one hand but its soul sucking on the other. Meaning it's not like they Can reward their workers beyond having an excellent job. It is a vocation at best.
|
Many free lunches, underground pkg, retirement, insurances.

It would help if managers would be trained in management.

Enjoyed the overall experience at SBOT. The State Capitol grounds are fun to walk. Loved the relaxed work environment. Work was interesting.

The work was diversified and very interesting. It encompassed everything from reimbursements for staff and the entire State Bar attorneys to event planning and correspondence and interaction with Supreme Court Judges. There was a steep learning curve in budget procedures and accounting reimbursement codes. Independeent work style, minimal oversight by director. Co - workers were accomplished, bright hard working attorneys.
Most challenging was the lack of an up to date SOP, (standard operating procedure manual) nor was anyone familiar with the job allocation for the position I temporarily filled.
I love working through a challenge with a positive outcome. I was asked to compile a working manual for future employees.
The personal and professional growth was rewarding.

It's what you bring to the table.

Overall I enjoy working here. There are challenges such as undocumented processes, out-dated technology (not all), uneducated management in the way of business concepts, and running into coworker mentality of doing the minimum amount of work. The idea of team is hit and miss here. What I do appreciated is the opportunity and support to self improve in education if one chooses to act on it. In my area the powers that be actually want to here ideas once in awhile, but you must go through proper channels. They really need outsider information to bring their antiquated systems up to speed.
