● Work-life balance
You are required to work your scheduled shifts and a 4 hour mandate once every 2 weeks on top of your biweekly 80 hours. So you will work 84 hours in 2 weeks. Plenty of overtime offered to those who want it.

Great benefits.
● Job security and advancement
After a one year probation period you are all set. You can then get FMLA and other things that give you job security if you get sick.
● Management
My manager fights for her employees and is great. Makes sure to say good bye when she leaves. Not all managers are as great, but I appreciate my manager.
● Culture
Everyone knows everyone, and for the most part is welcoming.
● Overall
I enjoy my job at the veterans home. I've worked at other places and the veterans home has been the most welcoming. Wonderful residents for the most part and same goes for the staff.

We would get called out in the middle of the night all the time. It became increasingly difficult to find someone to watch my son at a moments notice.

Its a great place but its like high school with rumor mill.
|
I loved my job. Some if the nurses are lazy and won't pitch in when you are short staffed. Some LNA's are lousy but they are pets to the big wigs so you can't complain it goes on deaf ears. I went to work and proudly did my job as well with picking up the slack. Excellent benefits the best around! If you can tolerate the atmosphere.

Air Traffic Control is Unique
|
As an air traffic controller for the Federal Aviation Administration you are mostly insulated from typical government office politics...mostly. It's a great job and it's important. The money at the higher level facilities is excellent. The schedule is brutal. Expect to work nights, weekends, holidays, overtime, and expect to do it for your entire career as a controller. It is hard to get days off in short notice. To summarize, it's the best darned job you could ever hope to do-if you are cut out for it. If you aren't, it'll be horrible and you'll probably wash out or bid into a staff or supervisory job. Just remember where you came from if you do.
