I have worked for the state for17 years. It was once a great place to work. However, after the management changes it is obvious people were promoted who are not qualified for the positions. This has hurt the department and the lack of leadership is apparent. Sadly, I am looking for other employment.

Low pay, no raises, high stress
|
Everything is geared toward the public with no regard to the employee. You will be expected to do triple duty, with minimal staff, while ensuring that the public gets everything they want. Do not expect a raise. You may get a high performance rating during reviews, but that does not include additional pay, only additional work load. If you've always wanted to work at a stressful, highly demanding, free clinic, available to work extra, and don't need the money, you'll probably do okay.

This job gives me security of knowing I have a job and there is no chance of being let go, but the state changes protocol and policies too often. Just as you learn how to do your job, they come along and change something to screw you up. Too much micro managing. There's more chiefs than indians, so to speak.
