Great company to work for

I've worked at SteelMaster for almost a year now, and I really enjoy working here. Unlike previous jobs I've had, I genuinely like coming in to the office every day.
The biggest pro that stands out about working here for me is the company culture. I've never felt so appreciated as an employee before, with free lunch at the end of every month, dressing up on Halloween and company potlucks during the holidays. The managers really care about your work/life balance too.

Nothing really about the business itself...traffic can be rough occasionally because it's near the Oceanfront.

During my time there I was able to partake in helping this company grow immensely with the overwhelming support and care from the management team and fellow employees. Working here taught me valuable organizational and sales skills that have helped me succeed in my new career path. The collective management team has over 90 years of sales experience and are always ready to jump in to help and teach at any time of the day. It was my pleasure working together with them; they are dedicated to this company and its success. I was able to achieve many career and personal goals during my tenure there; I will always remember the company and its people very fondly. The company also offers excellent health and retirement benefits which are rare and extremely important in this day and age.

With the environment of the business being so focused on goals and competition, I believe it to be important to continue to do things to help lighten the mood and atmosphere. Company lunches, sales dinners, end of year parties, football and whiffle ball in the parking lot, and flexibility to get away for an hour here and there to go for a run or a workout are great perks. Also, as previously mentioned, the offering of the retirement and health benefits is fantastic. Continue to do all these things!!!

Neat place to work!

Really fun workplace culture; everyone I worked with was extremely friendly, company fostered a fun atmosphere constantly. For instance, while I was working there a big World Cup soccer match was to be played during the workday, so a projector was set up and the game broadcast in a conference room so that all interested parties could watch during break times. In another instance, an ice cream truck was contracted to come to the office and distribute ice cream to all employees, and the bill for the ice cream was taken care of by the company. There was constantly fun things like that happening to foster a fun work atmosphere.
Additionally, it's a small company, and therefore thankfully doesn't have an overly corporate feel, but it also doesn't fall into the small business pitfall of being stuck in its ways and falling behind the times. My supervisor, for instance, was constantly researching new trends in the industry, and in our field in particular, and thinking about ways to implement those new ideas into what we were doing. That's really important, and is likely to keep the company relevant over time (an important consideration if you're considering whether this a company you'd like to plant long-term career roots with).

I didn't experience anything negative while I was there. There were some concerns posted in earlier reviews about salesman positions. I can't completely speak to this, as I was not a salesman, but I can speak to my personal experience, and I can certainly say that during my time there I absolutely never observed a salesman lying, or a salesman being compelled to lie, or a salesman being treated in a non-positive way.

During my time at SteelMaster I was able to work on a number of projects of size and scope, while experiencing the thrill of closing sales. The leadership team provides you all the tools necessary to be successful. However, if you cannot sell or are afraid of being told no then look elsewhere. This is a consultation driven, people person business, and being a chameleon on the phone is essential to winning business. Work life balance was great and the managers were always flexible with my family's schedule. 5 years is no brief amount of time and I enjoyed all of them there.

The pressure to close at the end of the month was trying at times, but its a sales job after all. The health benefits are very expensive, but what company isn't these days? Not really any other "cons" that come to mind.

Paid on your performance so if you did well the money was good. The leadership team is very engaged and energetic. Place can be a very fun and exciting place. Interesting building projects and customers to work with.
I worked at SteelMaster for almost 5 years and its a job that you have to make the best of it. Not a place where you can hide and get a pay check.

Can be a stressful if you are not on your game and not having a good month. closing ratio is 3-5% So must get through 98% Not interested. if you focus on the 3-5% you will do just fine.
Not many cons to working there. Maybe no room for a true promotion. There are some title promotions with a small compensation. Again most of your income is based only on your sales numbers.

Altogether a GREAT company!

Where to begin.. The welcoming environment certainly made the experience unforgettable. I had never seen myself as one to work in an office and this internship clearly changed my perspective about it. Working in a smaller department, I felt I had the freedom to gain the knowledge I was there to begin with, as well as being beneficial to the company itself. I was always motivated to do more, learn more, share more, and work more - all surrounded by encouraging and positive people, whether co-workers or supervisors. I can't say enough about how thankful I am that I had had this opportunity to be able to work with such great people in a successful company!

The fact that it was only an internship and therefore, it was bound to end - even though, I must say, they were supportive enough to even extend my internship dates!

Most coworkers are great, but it's a revolving door so don't get too attached. That's really all the pros that I can think of.
|
If you are a great liar than this is the job for you. You are instructed to lie. If you do not lie you are told that you are not doing the job correctly. When I say lie I mean make up elaborate stories to the customer on the phone to trick them into thinking that they are getting s great deal when in fact they are paying regular price. On top of that once they purchase the building you must try to then sell them accessories for the building at huge mark up. That's the only way to make any money. If you're okay with working 40hrs a week and almost every holiday for 18k a year plus piddly commissions then have it at.
