The company was on the cutting edge of analytics implementations, so we were gaining a lot of exposure up until about three years ago. I used to be a huge cheerleader for this shop, but the culture became very toxic over the past 3 years. The company is dying quickly. Roughly 40% of the senior team members have left for better opportunities in the past quarter, and resource utilization is approximately 50% in a good week; you won't hit your billable target. Leadership has spent the last three years pitching the strategy of pivoting to advanced analytics and business intelligence, but they have failed to execute and continue to be typecast as good technical resources for running your tag management tool. Nepotism is rampant among leadership with family members still employed after substantial screw ups. Other members of leadership are there because they grew up with the former CEO but are entirely unqualified to lead; prefer self over team. This has also lead the culture to shift from being team oriented to being focused on self-preservation. I met some decent people.... that's about it! The CEO's arrogance was beyond the pale... he has his circle of frat boys that he would throw business to and hang out socially with but anyone outside the circle was demeaned and looked down upon. This company loved titles and would hire folks that would love their titles as well, flaunting their self-proclaimed superiority and not really doing much of anything. There was no training on anything, and was left to fend for myself. The direction was constantly changing along with everyone's title, projects were constantly messed up and lost. The big titled people would leave you hanging to pursue their own projects. This was one of the most unpleasant places I have ever worked. These individuals fill key positions with like-minded family members, friends that aren't qualified, or spineless "yes-men" who do as they are told, look the other way, and trade their integrity for director positions, and larger pay checks. The net effect is a company that completely lacks morale, stability, vision, innovation, and leadership. Under no circumstances would I recommend you work at Stratigent. Not for experience. Not for a title. Not even to simply collect a paycheck, which is what literally everyone there is doing, partners included. I wish I had heeded some of the other reviews that warned of the culture and leadership They do manage to hire really smart and hard working people. Interesting projects and clients. Projects are disjointed and clients are dissatisfied largely in part to high turnover and overworked staff. Starting pay is below average and not worth the extra time you have to put in. The best part of the job is the ability to learn the latest technologies so that you can build your resume quickly. The people I work with are really smart and great to work with as well. Lately, there has been more opportunity for moving up, so if you work hard and prove your worth, you can move up. Proving to management that you can be trusted with projects and to deliver good work on time is the key to being successful here. Sometimes work/life balance goes out of whack and there are late nights, but I feel like it's just part of being a consultant. Work/life balance - only after you get to know how to hit the 34 hours a week target. Paid phone plan. It was awesome till the company moved to Chicago. The leadership only consists of the CEO's minions. His minions can talk and say anything they want in company meetings, throw abuses at each other, but if somebody who isnt in his circle does it, booom.. you are fired!!! Team building events are once a year and they mainly focus on the CEO self gloating and saying how HE has sold the company to a bigger company!!! kudos to that. When you want to put in your papers then either get out without notice or make sure you leave saying how much you love stratigent but have to leave because of ____(fill blanks with some personal problem) if you give negative feedback to their face, then be sure to be fired. They moved to Chicago citing location is great fro business. But the move to Chicago was only to make the travel easier for the CEO and his minions. There was no travel allowance for employees coming from the suburbs and the salary remained the same. Employees have to pay for the training they need to get the job done. Work/life balance (sorta, when you're not putting out fires or being reprimanded for the lack of experience of others). You travel and meet very interesting people, so that's a nice perk. Leadership - they lack transparency and guidance, outside of their "clique" you're really just a seat. Insurance isn't great (dental & vision & high deductible on health insurance). As you grow as a businessman, people in your circle need to change. CEO is very open about a lot of the business moves we make and our finances. Support from management is pretty consistent. Work with a lot of cool people on a lot of cool projects. Employee turnover interferes with quality of projects, but I hope some of that will be marginalized in the future. They'll provide you with a laptop, pay for a phone plan, and offer vision + dental + health insurance (albeit not the best plans). They do allow for remote employees and usually try to bring in all of the remotes to the Chicago office once or twice a year. The transparency with how the business is doing and openness of the CEO during company meetings is a refreshing change. Be ready for turnover, and lots of it. Between hiring people that cannot perform the job to running out those that can, I'm surprised anyone is left. Upper management lacks the proper training to be able to fully lead a team. Let's start from the bottom… if you're promised opportunities of management they are talking about team leads. Team leads have 0 authority over the others and should not be confused with the project managers (which pretty much anyone can be a project manager). These team leads sole purpose is to report the feedback from the rest of the team to the uppers. I'm pretty sure the feedback gets tossed out after that, and as you work your way up the chain its more about who has been there the longest rather than who is actually qualified for the job. Expect to work long hours as you must hit a weekly goal of hours that are billable to clients. Worked 15 hours on something internal? Doesn't matter if you hit 40+ total hours, you're still expected to have the 35 hours of billable time. Additionally since they are so quick to hire people to fill desks, expect to fix a lot of mistakes made by others and put out lots of fires. I lost count how many times I had to work on the weekends due to this. Finally, the CEO… he might seem nice and playful, but he definitely plays the favorites game. The only thing I think he did right is be honest and open in company meetings – saying what's on his mind.
