Interesting work, great people

The company focuses on tracking trends across industries, and the wide-ranging subject matter and variety of clients keep things super interesting. People are really engaged and competent, and I'm learning from my colleagues all the time. Before the pandemic some of us felt a bit remote from our UK colleagues, but with Zoom/Teams keeping us connected, we've become a more coherent unit. The company also started monthly town halls, and the relative transparency and communication is appreciated.

It's a small company (under 100 between UK and US), and there's always some downsides to that – big corporations naturally have more resources and benefits. There are also upsides to that, so this one depends on your perspective and preference.

I left because this company gave me a painfully serious nervous breakdown. My family and doctor begged me to leave even though there was no job lined up afterwards. I was thrown into arguments amongst more senior members when I wasn't involved, solely to take the blame for other people. I was called names by senior members of staff. I was belittled in public. I felt I was hired solely to share information about previous employers which was a bit worrying. Reading the other reviews has made me realise that it wasn't just me either. That in itself is a bit of solace after the PTSD this company and its people caused. It's sad because I think certain individuals( HR, the support/admin mainly) who were really supportive or at least tried. I cannot say the same for those else around. I've moved on thankfully, but really would be wary of joining if your resilience is not 100% intact. I genuinely thought mine was until I worked here.

Nice office view. Some of the people are nice. I can't think of anything else.

The culture here is horrible.
I think a lot of it filters down from the coldness of the senior leadership team, CEO, and PA's as well as office management (hr are lovely, but probably feel their hands are tied most of the time).
I felt incredibly overworked, depressed and unmotivated.
There are some nice people, but it is extremely clicky as some people have spent most of their careers there, and are quite older, some also think they are a hot knife going through butter. This also equals to being stuck in their ways and not being open to the innovations and change that they so proudly report on.
Furthermore, they are clock watchers, God forbid you to leave early or arrive a little late and an immediate assumption being made that work won't be completed (you will get eyeballed). It's 2020, it should be measured on how well you do your job, not counting seconds.
The offices are in a horrible location too.
My experience was that most people (perhaps they felt too pressured) were way to corporate and unhappy.

Get slack to improve internal communication.
Have better bonding activities for staff - stop being so stingy!
It's okay to have a little fun, greet the staff and share about your life.
Get better training
Be more flexible and understanding of staff lives outside the 9-6 working hours.
Stop telling the entire company that everything is only about money, it seems to be all you care and go on about, and it's sad. It's obviously needed but not to the extent where the overall vision for the company is to make money - duh, that's the goal of most companies FYI, it makes people feel so used rather than contributing to something worthy.
Smile, be kind and honestly put your employees first and I'm pretty sure a lot will change.

Terrible company. Avoid.

While working at stylus I was lucky enough to work with nice, smart people. My managers were good and insightful but one (probably unknowingly) handled issues terribly. Staff in other teams were all lovely - so many nice people here but I think its apparent that people can be nice while company culture remains cruel.

I knew Stylus had a bad rep on Glassdoor but avoided making a review up until now because I felt much of what needed to be said has been said by others already and wanted to put it behind me. Recently, something reminded me of the company and just what an awful time I had there so I set aside some time to air this out.
I wont be too specific, I don't remember if I was asked to sign an NDA (it certainly feels like something I would have been asked to sign under the guise of protecting IP) and I don't want to get myself in trouble.
This is a bad company to work for. If you're looking for a nice, fair environment, this isn't it. If you're looking for a modern approach to work, this isn't it. If you're hoping to get elbow deep in trend analysis this *may* be it but in my experience working with a handful of other similar companies, this isn't the place for the sharpest insights. Stylus is a bare-bones approach to trend insight.
I really wish I could go into specifics here because my time at the company was rife with terrible occurrences - my biggest regret is that I didn’t act on these at the time and seek legal advice. I think in these situations to protect yourself you just try and get away as far and fast as possible.
It has been some time since I left, but from what I can see and have heard it has not changed much. If you have other options, avoid this company - for such a tiny company it has such a high amount of terrible reviews on here (and believe me, more if you were to talk to people who worked here but don’t know about this site).
This is a bad company to work for. If you're looking for a nice, fair environment, this isn't it. If you're looking for a modern approach to work, this isn't it.
