I dealt with discrimination and was bullied by the supervisors .if you haver any disability I would recommend you look elsewhere. they refused to provide restrooms and when you make a complaint nothing is done about it.

Get ready to be mistreated and under payed (worth the read)

So let's begin, this company is led by people who have no understand what a worker is or needs. If you enjoy working between 30 -60 hours a week without a set schedule then this is the place for you. The day starts anywhere from 3 am-6 am (changes every day, and you find out the night before) and ends anywhere from 4 pm-10 pm (some days were 16 hours straight, which do not count as overtime). The company puts "yes men" as supervisors/foremen who have no experience with Asphalt, with workers schedule, and if you have a CDL be prepared to never sleep or see your family. I know this sounds like a disgruntled employee but I am actually happy to not be working here anymore. This is to warn anyone who might read this believing the lies that you'll be told when you're hired (such as "we're looking for a foreman and you would be a perfect fit, they used that with every new hire I spoke too). They underpay and overwork, but no one complains because typically you get 20ish hours of overtime a week. Be prepared to work 13-16 hour days, with a 4-hour "sleep". You're outside all day since this is asphalt work, but depending on your crew you normally need to provide your own water and drinks, they may provide ice. Usually, there is never any shade or "cooling" station. I saw it once in a few months of work. Also, the Superintendent enjoys coming to the job first thing in the morning and telling everyone what they're doing wrong and they need to fix it or be fired.
The culture at Sunland is horrible, the crews are generally good-hearted people who all suffer together and work together, but the management and the finished product is TERRIBLE. The jobs they bid for are always the worst, in the worst conditions with stringent timelines so be prepared to have many different people yelling at you. I have done Asphalt for over 8 years, and this is by far the worst company in how they treat and prepare jobs for their employees. The equipment is old and constantly being repaired on the spot, I saw two pavers go down on the same project, and we were forced to sit and wait (that was a 19 hour day) in which we started at 4 am and got off at 1 am the following day, yet came back in at 5 am (yes, 4 hours later). Yet this company always gets away with mistreating the workers and forcing certain employees (not me) to ever work between 30 - 37 hour straight shifts (yes it's illegal, no they have yet to be punished).

This is a horrible company to work for, there’s always a lack of communication. You never know what’s going on it’s like pulling teeth trying to get and answers. You get punished for speaking up on anything wrong. You’ll be punished by getting your hours cut or not scheduling at all. They’re guys here that get away with murder literally they do little to no work and sometimes don’t show up to work at all. Due to family members being in management. Or and snitching or taking pictures to jeopardize others in order to get hours. Don’t work here

typical day at work: Fill tanker with Seal coat. Drive to job site. Secure area with cones and flagging. Clean, Crackfill, seal coat, then back to the yard.

Good, stable company and great work culture.

This company has been around for a while and is a good stable work environment. Everyone here is very friendly and the management here is very supportive. There are community projects to be involved in and employee input is valued. Definitely one of those places that you want to get up and go to work for everyday. The pay is good. The benefits are good; medical, dental, vision, life and disability insurances, 401K and tuition reimbursement available. This company seems to really care about their employees. I would recommend working here to any of my friends.

There is no typical day. Every day is different which I enjoy. I do anything from helping crews with questions in the morning to working on payroll, accounts payable, answering phone calls, typing meeting minutes, etc.

I enjoy working at Sunland Asphalt. It is a good company with good benefits and reliable and steady work. I like how Sunland is always trying to make improvements and takes employee input. Sunland Asphalt is a really large company but maintains a personal and friendly work environment. They are very loyal to the employees who are loyal to them and they keep their employees working year round. They are very proactive in encouraging employee growth; whenever someone shows initiative in advancement Sunland provides opportunities for training, coaching and guidance.
