Sun Yat-sen University indeed can provide many opportunities for young researcher, but more invest on PHDs, not master student. If you obtain a PHD degree and apply for some research positions, Sun Yat-sen is a good choice.

A good place for work
|
Where I work in China is the 6th Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University and I was a surgeon. Also I had research grant and do some research on colorectal cancer and liver cancer. The 6th Affiliated Hospital is nice place for working and improving the surgical skill. However, the income is not so good for the doctors to a easy life in Guangzhou.

Sun Yat-sen University is a highly respected university in China. It has a organizational structure as most universities operated by the Ministry of Education in China. There is a strong academic environment and students are eager to learn. Guangzhou is a nice city to live in.

Good for a short time
|
Worked as English teacher in Zhuhai. Pay is low but reasonable considering the low cost of living. They provide rooms for you to stay in so you don't have to search for your own apartment. Some do though. Management style is very hands off which is both a good and bad thing. One of the great perks was the free classes. If you want to learn Chinese, a great opportunity.

It is a famous university in the southern part of China with a free academic atmosphere. I spent both my undergraduate and master study there. The people there are nice. However, the pay there is not very high compared with here in US. Good thing is your employer's expectation for your work is not so high as here in US. In all, it is a good place for study and life. Yes, you can always find a balance there easily compared with here in US.

Work in China as foreigner is complex

Students are very clever and much more creative than Koreans. They have a lot of knowledge hunger but unfortunately, the political environment controls all educational tools (internet, libraries, etc.).
Don't propose new ideas or concepts, they will copy and steal from you without any hesitation nor credit of your work.
