Nice place to work... if you're looking through rose colored glasses
The onboarding team. Period. Some of the smartest, kindest, most driven and helpful people I've ever met. Everyone genuinely wanted to collaborate to improve and succeed. People cared about your success as a teammate, and your well-being as a human. Strong management on the Onboarding team that also cared a lot about your success and well-being. They consistently gave tangible feedback about what you were doing well, and where you could improve.
Pay and perks were competitive and nice at one point, before the comp structure got adjusted and some perks were taken away.
Fun startup culture that valued celebrating wins
Customer onboarding was grueling work, with little to no appreciation. Not only is the work exhausting, but it also got heavily monotonous, which made it hard to stay excited and invested. We were the customer experts, but were never asked for feedback from the broader organization. We were often seen as bottom of the barrel, despite being proclaimed as "what sets the company apart from competitors". The company was quick to send a gift box (no shame to the wonderful people ordering them - they were always personal, thoughtful, and intentional), but slow to make any real changes. There was little to no transparency or communication from the top down.
I understand reductions in force are part of the status quo in start-ups these days, and that there is no good time to be laid off, however, there are more respectful ways to have the call than I experienced. The person who called me was very clearly eating through the phone call, was ill-prepared, and could not answer any of my questions about benefits coverage or any other parts of the lay-off "package". I was told I'd have answers via email within a day or two, but had to follow up multiple times over a week later. Even then, the answers were delayed.

Still trying to figure out how to navigate the world of VC growth. Sometimes feels like we change directions without much of a warning, and pretend like this was always the plan.

Hey day of product genius is over
- kind and smart colleagues *mostly* - deep problem space and interesting problems within - good culture overall - recent addition to leadership
- product within Superhuman has lost its sharpness.... starting from vacillating between product strategies, to the widely known: keeping a product "leader" who has zero value add and has less competence than an associate hire, to team morale being low

Need a leadership shakeup
Some of the smartest and kindest people I have worked with was from my time at Superhuman. Most care a lot about the work and for each other. There are flexible policies for remote work and working hours, even if outside of NA timezones.
The company has lost its way and vision since the CEO stopped being involved. There have been many questionable hiring decisions made for leadership roles, some corrected after too long, others remain unchanged. Recently the culture of loud leaders [men] has become palpable and made Superhuman lose its years of integrity where humble, smart people come together and do great work. Unfettered CEO admiration speak has cloaked incompetence and inability to deliver - often times on the biggest focus areas of the company, which is sad as so many others push hard to meet metrics and numbers.

Don't wait until everyone burns out. Take a close look at your team and rid of bad apples before culture and momentum grinds to a halt. There is still a lot of good within.

Take off the rose colored glasses
Some great people, the onboarding and people teams (not the head of people) in particular are phenomenal. The onboarding managers are some of the best managers I’ve ever experienced. Decent perks
The workload on the onboarding side is not sustainable. It’s a decent job, but the expectations are not sustainable, though that’s not the fault of the manager. The company touts transparency, but doesn’t walk the walk. Layoffs were handled unprofessionally and inhumanely, and there was little to no follow up from upper management. It’s easy to get sucked in to the perks and swag, but once you take the rose colored glasses off, it’s not a great place to work.

Practice the transparency you preach. Hold upper leadership accountable. Listen to the onboarding team. They are a deep wealth of knowledge about the product and the customer experience. Create more opportunities for their voices to be heard and valued.

Everything at Superhuman is intentional; from the way the product is designed to the way employees are treated. It’s also one of the most collaborative environments where people genuinely want to help each other. Definitely one of the best companies I have been a part of.

Fun perks aren’t worth mistreatment
Remote work, decent perks, set your own hours
The onboarding manager is incredible - supportive, challenging, helpful, kind, respectful
Absent ceo
No real communication, lack of transparency
They make you feel like there is space for feedback, but nothing is done about the feedback
Workload expectations were unrealistic, started to get marginally better, then is back to unsustainable (think trying to fit in 28 hours of customer facing calls, plus admin to prep and follow up on those calls, plus multiple hours of meetings and trainings, plus time to “innovate” (because you aren’t already doing enough), plus extra slots in case not enough customers, and don’t forget the hour of team building)
The head of people is disrespectful and unprofessional - think, eating while telling someone they were losing their job, and taking over a week to provide information that was promised in a few days
The onboarding team is a wealth of information as they’re the main customer facing team, however they’re never asked for feedback about the product or customer experience
Layoffs were completely unprofessional and disrespectful. I understand there’s no great way to be laid off, but clear, kind, and direct would be a great start.
