I have been working in the pharma industry for 5 years, 2 of which were at Sutro Biopharma. In the first few months of my career there, I learned more than I had the in 3 years at my previous jobs. This is due largely to the start-up phase the company was in but also to the confidence management had in its employees. I was provided with endless opportunities to improve my scientific writing skills and was encouraged to take initiative. In two years, the size of the manufacturing team grew 40%, a testament to the success of the company as a whole. More important than the work itself, were the people I was privileged to work with. The manufacturing group is made up of a people from various backgrounds, from recent college graduates to persons with over 20 years of industry experience. The diversity of the group allows for everyone to continuously learn. Halfway through my career at Sutro, I went part time as I decided to pursue the career in law I always dreamed of. Sutro fully supported my decision, and allowed me to continue working part time - which was great for me as I wasn’t ready to leave my family yet! At this time, I transitioned into a recruitment role, where I assisted my managers in hiring manufacturing associates. Soon after we filled all of the open positions, I transition again, to work in materials and logistics. My director taught me a lot about the business side of manufacturing and just how critical regulating inventory is. I was truly blessed to work at Sutro, and if I wasted returning to school, I never would have left.
