Very smart scientists, very bad leadership
|
The scientists ran the show with very little regard for the bottom line. As a consequence they had to bring in some hatchet guys from Thermo to start cutting jobs and product lines. They are getting the place ready to sell, no job is secure there. I recommend avoiding the place until they are sold.

A great place to work

The people were dedicated to the job, worked hard and enjoyed working together and I also enjoyed working with them. if you had a problem with something. the other people in the group would come in and help if they had time.

I enjoyed working with them. The company sponsored projects after work like walk a thons, scavenger hunts, exercize programs.
|
The only thing that disliked was having to leave such a great group of people

Very boring job
|
I got a list of agar plates I needed to make every day, which only took me half a day to make. I never got any additional tasks even when I asked for them. I didn't learn much except for how to make agar plates and what went into them. The scientists were nice and since I had a lot of time on my hands were always willing to kill time. There was no hard part of my job.

SGI works on several great projects, but they encompass completely different facets and don't always overlap, preventing the company from focusing too specifically on any one area. There's not a complete confidence in the leadership. It is unclear what the future holds for the company.
The employees are generally very easy going and there is a strong team atmosphere despite the issues at the top. Snacks in the break rooms and the occasional happy hour.

Was the only buyer for six years. Fast paced and always excited about going to work. Interfaced with research groups daily and developed a relationship which provided a cost savings on products. Great company to work for and they called me in February 2016 to offer my job back. Keeping pace with requisitions and completing rush orders in a timely fashion. Most employees had a great attitude which meant for an enjoyable day.

Close to the beach for power walks at lunch time. Good benefits.

Sometimes 10-12 hour days.
