High proportion of Caltech grads, lots of brilliant, interesting people. Great family-run feel, very small, so lots of opportunity to branch out (but by the same token limited opportunity for official advancement.) Great life/work balance. Free vegan meals provided onsite everyday! 24 hour shop - one guy used to come in at 6:00 and work all night, average start time around 10:30-11:00. Overall a lovely place to work. | Constant cycle of non-core-business related 'divisions' that sucked the EDA cash cow dry. Small scale means not many voices involved in decision making. Terrible 'phone it in' sales and marketing management literally killed company. Went from hiring and salary freeze to successive corporate-wide salary reductions and furlough days. Intra-department communication was incredibly poor for such a tiny company. Would have gone under if not for 2015 acquisition by giant player in the same (EDA) sphere. Staff that remained for that transition too lazy/non-competitive to pick up work elsewhere. Some staff may be absorbed into new larger corporate environment, but Tanner as a separate entity will need to fight hard to survive as a business unit going forward. Exhorting sales to produce is not an effective tool. Use good horse sense and listen to your insiders instead of slick non-tech hucksters with a lot of vocabulary but no fear, fire or true concern for the company's well being. Do basic sales analytics to understand your market!
