Great, growing family
|

Great team experience and environment. Never afraid to make a mistake and had plenty of mentors
|
Nothing. Wish I could work for the company again and have a boss like the one I had

Awesome if you live with your parents and enjoy free pizza and beer
|
|
Great place to launch a web career. Generous with training. Perfect environment for experimenting with new ideas, processes and technologies or tools. Really big on "personal branding." Lots of pizza, beer, and camaraderie. They tend to hire extremely talented and intelligent people.
|
The work is demanding and the pay is terrible. No secret is safe. Cliques abound. CEO has a mercurial temperament --at best. Though bright and talented, their staff tends to be young and inexperienced.

Project Manager
|
Houston, TX
|
|
Easy job to get. Easier job to leave
|
|
- Fun and social environment typical of web agencies (parties, beer/wine in the fridge, young stafff)
- Great networking opportunities
- Get web experience with no previous experience
- Get training in many areas like Project Management, Development, Sales, SEO...
- Young / High Energy
- Very atypical workplace. They call themselves Schipulites. It's a bit like a club
- Small company
|
- Low pay with few opportunities for raises (especially among single people)
- Employees are "highly encouraged" to work overtime.
- Inexperienced staff
- High stress environment
- High level of gossip, especially among management.
- High turnover (around 30% annually when I was there)
- Low focus on technical skills
- Constant restructuring
- Required self-help book reading
- Arrogant upper level management with little to no experience implementing modern web technologies
- Meetings usually devolved into public bashing of clients and workers
- Stress that employees should be undervalued.
- Everyone is a "project manager"
- Public shaming in monday company-wide meetings
- "Candor" is often talked about and encouraged, but usually met with disapproval and repercussions

Treat the company more like a business and less like a self-help program. Give annual performance reviews with specific dates. Hire people based on their skillset. Value the employees that you have, and build a sense of job security.

A good place to start, but go to grow
|
|
-Great for just out of college applicants that are looking for web & agency experience
-Training galore
-Mostly fun culture and environment. Until it gets bizarrely negative
-Interesting client projects to work on
-(sometimes) a unique and creative workplace to brainstorm and grow
|
-Bizarre public tantrums from unstable senior leader, very de-moralizing and sometimes personally embarassing
-Low salary and very average benefits
-Low morale among managers, obviously super people but really stepped on
-No longterm path for rewarding growth. you will see opportunities for development & increased responsibilities, but none that come with a salary bump or support from up top

Stop the drama and inconsistent behavior from your C office and invest more in the 'little' guys that are breaking their backs and losing their nights and weekends to keep clients happy. Hopefully they will stay longer than I could and help you rebuild.

Work Here to Gain Experience, Hard to See Real Future Considering the Unstable Leadership
|
|
-Fun environment to work in, when you don't factor in the potential instability of the way the company is run
-Allows entry-level professionals with a college degree to gain experience in nearly all facets of web development, social media marketing, online marketing, and some programming if you have the desire to learn
-Fast paced environment
-Large client base, specifically in and around Houston
-Fairly established, has been around at least 13 years
|
-Ineffective Human Resources management
-Arbitrary company policies implemented with no real fore-thought on the future affects to the organization as a whole
-Mostly disorganized approach to leadership among the highest ranks of management
-Extremely high turn over of employees
-Low pay compared to industry standards and location

-Work to improve Human Resources leadership
-Work to invest in your current employees, and have faith that they are willing to be loyal to the company if they believe in the competence of the company's leaders.
-Consider budgeting company revenue wisely back into the company instead of unnecessary expenses, including "business trips" that do not really bring value to the company
-Identify and eliminate incompetent employees instead of allowing less than satisfactory work to pass as acceptable
-Focus on hiring more professionals than constantly hiring interns to make up for the lack of a competent work force
-Be a proactive company instead of a reactive one
