The paper does not get the support it needs from its corporate ownership, but it makes the best of it.

You learn so much about what's happening in the community, and can anticipate what's to come. The most enjoyable part of the job is getting out and meeting people, writing stories that make an impact on the community.

Union shop with opportunities for reporters to cover a variety of topics as well as opportunities to advance within. Good benefits for union members and non-union staff. Generally long days for managers who absorb several roles due to staffing shortages. Reporters carry a heavy workload, too. Workplace culture needs improvement; management needs to do a better job at engaging employees, in general, to make them feel valued in the organization. Some managers are better at engagement than others.
