Collaborative Experience
Encouraged to share ideas and collaborate. Managers REALLY support and listen to you. The best people work here! Awesome app with tons of potential. Benefits are good! I’m so excited for 2023, we’re really moving in the best direction possible. Love that we can work from literally anywhere and are paid to camp!
Can be pulled on multiple tasks at once (that’s a startup though) PTO could be better, but we do get the whole week off between Christmas and New Year.

Amazing place to work!
Collaborative work environment. They seem to really value employee opinions and ideas. The support between teams and roles is evident in the evolution of the company.
I really do love it here! My only con would be I wish I got to work with them in person.

Avoid if you're a creative
The Dyrt's greatest asset is their amazing community of campers. The user base is smart and engaging.
They are good at hiring good and friendly people. They are bad at retaining them.
The people in power at this company have a complete disconnect about where work gets done. They do not understand brand or design which leads them to asking for creative without allowing time for strategy, research, or testing. They consider creatives dispensable and will cut those roles at any sign that the company will not make overly ambitious set financial goals.
They also preach diversity and inclusion yet point to token individuals as proof of this mission. This is a white boys club through and through.
As for the amazing camping community, they are all but ignored. The Dyrt is on a path of selling, selling, selling and are no longer engaging their community in a meaningful, thoughtful way.
The ideas from higher ups are not congruent and lack strategy. Every day is a fire drill and the goals post are always changing. It is a fast pace work environment in all the wrong ways.
The ship is sinking, avoid at all costs.

Don't ignore your campers. Your community is the only thing that differentiates you from the competition.
Stop lying to investors with setting unrealistic financial goals.
Stop trying to copy HipCamp and be your own product.
Actually value your employees instead of seeing them like pawns in a game.

Founders with no business running a business
- Team members are amazing and supportive!
- This is a 9 year old "start up" which means you'll be expected to work for less pay and put in more hours with constant changing priorities because it's a "start up" and the reality is that this is a 9 year old company that has gone through early stages and has tried to mature over the years but is hindered to grow based on an executive team that is stuck in their own beliefs and incompetence
- Inexperienced founders that are unqualified to lead people or a business
- The female founder is not actually involved in the business anymore
- The CEO is the actual founder's husband and has been running the business though it's unclear what his actual qualifications are as he appears to have little business acumen and doesn't actually understand technology, product, or consumer apps
- The company lacks real vision
- The CEO copies what competitors are doing, dictates every feature of the product roadmap with superficial ideas not backed by any market research, and then becomes frustrated when things don't "take off"
- The CEO has emotional outbursts on a daily basis and is highly unpredictable which has created an environment of walking on egg shells daily
- This is a small company where you will work directly with the CEO regardless of your rank, he will insert himself into your work and will put you in spin cycles that are confusing, unstructured, and require you to drop everything you're working on
- Be prepared for the CEO to publicly shame you or blame you for doing what he asked for if things don't go how he likes
- I was with The Dyrt for a year and the only purpose I could find in my work was to help the founders make a lot of money as fast as we could

Directionless and pompous leadership still aboard a sinking ship
Great idea for a startup company. My time there was made worth it by my teammates.
There were many downsides to working at The Dyrt. For starters, leadership could not agree on a direct path to make the company profitable. I witnessed many marketing schemes (and yes, I do say schemes) attempt to increase the number of user on the platform. Most of these ideas involved advertisements that touted a product that simply did not exist. Infighting in the C-suite about poor project results frequently left them to turn on each other, but particularly the women were left to be the scapegoats.
At the employee level, turnover was so drastic that projects would begin with one group of people and at the end a completely new set of people would be left to deploy. This was a difficult environment to work in, coupled with unrealistic deadlines and last minute changes. Many were unhappy to be micromanaged by members of the executive team. Their thoughts, opinions, and expert knowledge were frequently challenged by those untrained in their fields — why bother hiring if you're going to just do the job (poorly) yourself?
In addition, the compensation was lousy. Poor benefits and uncompetitive salaries plagues this company. They try to seem more lucrative by adding stock options to get potential prospects to join or to retain employees that attempt to leave, but will do nothing to bump your base salary.
If you are considering a job this, do not bother. This is a sinking ship, best to move on and take your talents elsewhere.

Do NOT work here!
Lots of really cool people.
They do not know what they are doing. "Leadership" doesn't have a clue on how to build a product. They hire good and really smart people, then don't listen to them and try to micro manage how they work. They would be wise to sell the company and move on.
