Protect the Freedom of the Press by supporting Journalism
I was proud to be a part of a company providing outstanding journalism; while my day-to-day work did not typically show up in the pages of The Kansas City Star or on the website, I knew that my work helped make it happen. Mike Fannin is a strong President and Regional Editor.
While I was proud to work for a media company, their pay was not competitive and had to leave and return to see an increase in pay. Furloughs and job cuts have unfortunately become the norm and those who keep their jobs are simply asked to take on more work for the same (or less) money as before.

Run away...
You get to do journalism to a degree.
Some of those left in the newsroom care about each other, but it can also be a ruthless environment where reporters become hyper-competitive for clicks, creating a bad work environment.
Older/more experienced staff often laid off and those that aren't laid off are all looking for an exit strategy. A lot of the younger staff leave on their own because they see writing on the wall.
Business/click model is broken. So many people in the community don't feel the paper is relevant anymore, which is sad.
"Benefits" are abysmal.
Management doesn't even attempt to shield you from corporate BS. It's clear the priorities are the sports department and anything that drives clicks. Top management in the company makes an obscene amount of money.

Don't be managers anymore. Take your golden parachutes already. If you're going to stay until the bitter end, then treat your employees like people in the meantime.

Not ideal
Flexibility to work offsite, good cell phone reimbursement.
Horrible management from the top down. Dying industry that can't seem to find the right way to shift and evolve with the rest of the world.
