The good thing was you know what time you was coming to work but you never knew what time you was getting off
|
The kansas city star was a good experience but very physical it was a whole lot of standing on your feet at all times will be 14 hours a day sometimes sometimes it can be 10 to 12 hours but through the summer we may be get 20 hours a week which wouldn't a lot but in the winter time that's when you get the 14 to 12 hour shifts

It was a very easy job
|
It could be difficult in certain areas with certain people but the job was easy to learn and do. I had my good days and my bad days but for the most part this company wasn't a good fit for me. The salary wasn't good and there was no benefits. You never knew what time you was going to get off so that was difficult.

Treated very unfair.No benefits.very discrimimated against because of my race, low pay & no raise.I hung in there because of my kids.I have a great job now that appreciates me.I worked there for ten years.I would NEVER recommend them to anyone I love.KC STAR IS A NO FOR ME. I had a good career there, with great co-workers and mostly great supervisors, but due to the decline of the newspaper industry, hundreds of talented people were cast aside and treated poorly, sometimes replaced almost immediately by lower-paid, entry-level people.

Would go back. Management trains very well. Coworkers where very friendly and helpful. The building was nice , clean, and state of the art in infrastructure.

Great talent still, caring managers and never a boring day.
But forget job security, not because of The Star but the overall business of newspapering, which is vanishing. The Star has made aggressive strides in its digital presence in recent years, and that's its future if you're into it.
For 33 years the company treated me well, even though the work messed with my blood pressure.

They're going out. They won't be around much longer and that's why they're letting people go. While I was there, I had a great time and I loved the guys I worked with. Very fun and relaxed. The foremen and great leaders and are very good at their jobs.
