They will always be there for you when you are in the weeds. While working there management was also amazing. Salary very low for the hours worked at the restaurant and duties I was given. Worked 3pm-4am 5 days a week. Health benefits weren't great either. 0.0 3.0 2.0 4.0 3.0 3.0 4.0 1481867 Open 0.0 [] REGULAR No No 0.0 Apr 28th, 2021 07:27PM Apr 28th, 2021 07:27PM The Mark Hotel Food Producers

It was a great experience. You will definitely be cooking for celebrities, kings, queens, and princesses from all over the world. Heavy work, especially during the holidays. Planning can be a hit or miss. But after mastering this place, you can make it in any kitchen. 1.0 POSITIVE 1.0 POSITIVE 0.0 5.0 4.0 3.0 5.0 3.0 3.0 1481867 Open If Front if house and F&B management do their best to coordinate with the Kitchen, there would be less issues. And thankfully there are many wonderful people in other departments that will support you and lift you up. I am strictly sharing what’s going on at the front desk.... Atrocious management. Only care about themselves. They pretend to care about others but as long as the so-called seniority’s are “ taken care of” that’s all that matters. -1.0 NEGATIVE -1.0 NEGATIVE 1.0 1.0 1.0 1.0 2.0 1.0 1.0 1481867 Open Before I start describing my experience at The Mark Hotel, I would like to say that I absolutely adore all the employers at The Housekeeping, The Bellmen, the lovely concierge, The Security guys, the In-room dining employees just to mention a few of the department I have great respect for and admire. These are truly hard working people that deserves a big shout-out. If there was a way I would give them a perfect score and review here at the same time as I am about to write my experience as a front desk agent, I would. I also meet so many absolutely lovely guests that I bonded with. But unfortunately my short-time at The Mark ( I was there just about 3 months) at the front desk was one of the worse jobs I have ever had, and I have had a few throughout my adult life. No jobs are prefect and there will always be people you work with and days that are not all that great. First, let me mention the management that goes on at The Mark. Most of the managers knows the hotel industry well, however, few of them know how to manage well. I have been a manager myself and I would not have said or done half of what some of these managers did. First of all you are absolutely constantly criticized. You can never do ANYTHING right. I understand it’s a 5 star hotel, but it was to the point where I didn’t want to come to work. It’s an expectation you can’t live up to. You can do 99 things right or even exceptionally well, yet you dot hear anything good that you did. That one time you make a mistake (cause we are all humans) you won’t hear the end of it. I especially noticed the rudeness and mistreat towards us new people. There were zero patients for new employers. And how is one supposed to learn when there is constant negative feedback and nothing is ever good enough. It’s also the way some of the managers spoke and corrected us non-managers. Often with rudeness and unprofessionalism. “You speak to slow” “you Speak too fast” “why did you pick up the phone that way” and when you correct these things to what ‘they ‘want then they want it in a different way. “You smile too much” You don’t smile enough”. I don’t think they know what they want themselves. And I know others agree with me… At some times it was actually on borderline with bullying. I did bring some of this to my supervisors, but nothing was ever done to fix it. One so-called manager tried to be my speech therapist for crying out loud. I speak 4 languages fluently... and certainly no speech issues, but imagine if I did..? But this just shows how they cross lines in order to keep up this 5 star facade. Ironically, the guest loved me and mentioned me on trip advisor and in emails sent out to the hotel. But also not good enough Backstabbing, jealousy and gossip is also something you’ll get from some people at the front desk agents. And I must add, the director of HR is completely useless and doesn’t care. Another robot! If you like to be part of a so-called Stepford wives world then by all mean try for a job as a Front desk agent at The Mark. But you won’t be happy there. There is a reason why only one or two people has been there longer than 12 months. Forget about getting a full weekend off, not even once a month. And yes we all know there can be tough hours in the hospitality business, but I know people that works in different hotels in this city that doesn’t have it nearly as bad as people at The Mark. They take completely advantage of you, and are a tad too obsessed about the term “seniority”. They take that and themselves a tad too serious. People at The Mark pretty much get a ‘No’ when asking for a day off or a Holiday. Even if you ask for a non-paid. I asked if I could take one day off because a close family member I had not seen in a while was sick. I got to take 3 hours off. However, the managers has no problems asking if you can stay late or come in early. Don’t get me started on the sexism at The Mark. We are about to step in to the 2020 and women are asked to wear heels, wear make-up and I was told by my super visor that he wanted my ponytail in a specific way. I like them to tell the guys to wear heels… why not? I completely understand it’s important to be well groomed and look professional at a Hotel like this, but this is beyond that. This is wrong. The managers were saying “we don’t want you guys to be robots” but yes in the end, that exactly what’s going on. I feel I was one of the few ones there that was actually smiling and laughing genuinely with the guests. Many were fake and precisely like a robot. My review here is absolutely NOT describing everyone at the Front desk, but perhaps majority. There were also a lot of inappropriate language from supervisors for a work place. Again, I respect and adore all the other departments. There are so many lovely people there I miss seeing every day, and I am happy at least they have much better managers. It is a great hotel, and I have only described the area I experienced. But I wish all the good ones there only the very best. And the truth is I am still grateful for my experience at The Mark, because of new friendships but also because it has led me to the job I have today, which is the best job I could have asked for right before starting a new year. I have it COMPLETELY OPPOSITE from what I had it The Mark. And for that I am saying, THANK YOU!! 0.0 [] REGULAR No No 1.0 Apr 28th, 2021 07:27PM Apr 28th, 2021 07:27PM The Mark Hotel Food Producers
