Wonderful people, wonderful people. Covid-19 tough on healthcare
People and mission. You will not find more caring, mission driven people anywhere. These people are dedicated to helping their clients and each other succeed. I loved working with everyone there.
Covid-19 has been tough financially on healthcare. The team is doing the best they can, as all organizations are, to stay in business and deliver their very much needed service.

There was a lot of turmoil during my time working at The Menninger Clinic in their office of philanthropy. Before my first day, it was shared with me that the VP of our department was no longer employed at Menninger. During my 3 years at Menninger, we had 3 different CEO s and 3 different board chairs. We also had a shuffle of numerous executive leadership positions. Practically all of the senior research staff left for Houston Methodist. My department had at least a 50% turnover rate. They would call us into a group huddle each time someone 'disappeared,' where they would share that the person was no longer working with us. Employee morale was extremely low. I think only one person who left actually put in a two week notice. Another person didn't even quit. She just quit coming into work. We were never fully staffed in my time working there (This was an issue for several departments). The employees who stayed were thanked with heavier workloads and poor work/life balance. There was a pervasive culture of blame that contributed to our department having the lowest engagement scores in the entire hospital. The office of philanthropy aka The Menninger Clinic Foundation earned its reputation for hostility and instability, which is why we had a difficult time replacing senior staff. It was made very clear that certain employees had to follow the rules while others were given preferential treatment. HR is about as effective as the generic replies they give to each of these reviews. If you're looking for a career in healthcare philanthropy, I recommend applying to numerous other hospitals in the Texas Medical Center.

I watched my own mental health deteriorate while I worked for Menninger. Since leaving, it has greatly improved. You boast about being the No. 5 ranked psychiatry hospital in the nation and yet companies like Starbucks offer more mental health benefits to their employees than you do. I suggest implementing policies that apply to everyone and align with your mission.
