Good knowledgeable and friendly staff. Some good ideas and products have been brought to fruition with positive results. Benefits : 401K with some matching funds. Medical good but expensive. Numerous complaints from the community on the lack of local coverage and a continual disconnect from providing local news. Continuous downsizing with extensive staff cuts and more responsibility heaped on the remaining staff. Managers very standoffish and there is a lack of communication from managers to the staff. No salary increases in the last 5 years but more responsibilities. High stress work environment. Lack of a mission statement that is still in development. High employee turnover rate, especially in advertising. Fluctuating and last minute scheduling making it difficulty to schedule personal time away from work. Zero ideas on how to increase revenue or creativity in the department. Fired entire editorial staff and hired some back as freelancers but the papers are a whisper of what they used to be. Atlantic City is an interesting city to cover. Journalists seem to be the bottom rung here, despite being the most valuable assets. Favoritism is rampant, despite so-called safeguards put into place by the big-wigs at BH Media that just makes this place pedantically, and unnecessarily, corporate. The editors/virtually everyone in charge have failed their way to the top somehow and can't even catch major misspellings in A1 headlines. It's truly laughable. If you like being in an environment that's perpetually understaffed, being grossly underpaid, developing ulcers from massive layoff then The Press of Atlantic City is the place for you. Unpaid overtime was also consistently an issue while I was there. This is just one of the many, many perks of working at a place that constantly skirts ethics and is heinously unprofessional. Forget any salary expectations: The person next to you could be making 55k and you could be making slightly over 35k. You are doing a job for two people and getting paid one salary . Micro management and so much paper work.
