Can work from home at times. Office is down the street from a cannabis dispensary. Some very good reporters and editors, but the company has no idea what it wants to be and CEO is archetypal abusive boss. Top editors frequently talk about taking on ambitious projects and doing original reporting, only to panic and aggregate TMZ when traffic is low at the behest of the CEO. No work-life balance. Mandatory weekend shifts of news aggregation, for which you are given comp days that management can play games with when you try to use them. Turnover is incredibly high, and far more employees leave the company with tears and/or a screaming match than get a normal sendoff. Management gloms on to your existing relationships and can burn bridges with unethical practices. Morale is extremely low, and plenty of employees have PTSD-like symptoms after leaving. Management and the CEO in particular will yell at someone on a daily basis. The rock bottom morale is apparent from day one. Turnover is extreme and there's absolutely no training or continuity. You will be yelled at for things you weren't even aware were your responsibility. The company aligns itself with social justice movements purely for profit. TheWrap is also pathologically cheap. You are forced to bring your own laptop in to work, you will have to fight for every dollar you expense, and short-sighted decisions to save a back will hamstring any potential growth for the company. This is the absolute worst company I've worked for in a long career in the industry. If your position deals with outside companies, clients, or talent BEWARE. Management will torpedo any relationship you build, either from a misguided desire to make a profit now with no consideration for the future or with management's own erratic and hostile behavior. In short, don't involve anyone with TheWrap that you want to remain friendly with after your time here. CEO micromanages and likes to hear herself yell. Management gets off on belittling their employees. I got out almost as quickly as I joined... should have known better. Better off not working at all Chance to get some bylines Worst management experience of my professional career. Constant yelling from CEO. Loses her cool on a daily basis and makes the entire office a miserable place. Managment constantly pulling various employees into their offices to yell at them or suspend them without pay. Management often changes priorities and direction, then gaslights you — trying to make you think you're the crazy one. They will have you writing before your shift and after your shift, no regards for personal time. Bare bones staff to cover only clickbait, not real news stories. Avoid this place at all costs. While there I accomplished several amazing feats helping grow the company under very challenging stipulations, for this I will always be grateful. The other members of the team were good smart with good intentions and great people to work with. The top management has no clear vision of what they want to business to be beyond a money-maker. After that, the mission is splintered which makes for many inefficiencies. That could potentially be over looked or worked around, however, the top brass is unbearable. They do not understand work/life balance and I would get called at 5am demanding work to be done, arbitrary comments on my appearance would often be up for discussion, and I was often pushed to work 52 hour weeks with no extra compensation, kudos, or opportunity for future upwards mobility. The worst offense is that the founder will do her best to shut down your future career opportunities if she feels like it. Everyone is so nice and works really hard, but is left to their own devices when getting work done which is really nice.
