Management was mostly good, but had one front of house manager that created a pretty negative work environment. From what I’ve heard he’s no longer with the company.

This company has been a complete joke since I started. Worked at one location and then helped out their staff at another location for sometime. After spending more time at the new location I asked to transfer there because the help was obviously needed. Shortly after the transfer I didn’t get paid for about 2-3 months and had ridiculous conversations with payroll and corporate who seem to have no idea what they’re doing. Finally they paid me, and then after the whole payroll shakedown the store I transferred to all the sudden stopped needing help and they stuck me on 1 day a week bartending schedule. Meanwhile there full time bartenders are constantly texting me “do u want to tonight’s shift?”. Other locations constantly need help, I’ve talked to multiple managers, across multiple locations who all tell me they need help and more shifts, yet they still don’t give me more than 1 shift. They’re even hiring and won’t use currently hired bartenders to fill their needs. They ignore all of their current employees and search for hiring outside the company. When how many good bartenders are u gonna find applying to Torchys? This company is horrible, a complete joke, and their new computer systems run a restaurant like it’s 1996. Run far away from this organization, they are a hassle not worth dealing with. A very unfair and inconsiderate management team. My name is Chris Andersen, and Torchys tacos corporate and the hampden store have treated me VERY UNFAIRLY. You will never get more shifts here EVEN IF THE OPPORTUNITY IS OPEN…IT IS NOT THE WAY THE OPERATE. They almost do everything they can to make it more difficult on themselves…including switching systems company wide to 90s system.

Arduous hazing, gossip and backstabbing.

-For Gringo style tacos this place isn't bad, I've been a regular at his location since it's first opened but stopped going after prices got out of control for just OK tacos. Unfortunately they're not authentico, same goes for management.
-Workplace diversity is strong, cooks are very in touch with their ingredients unfortunately they're underpaid or undocumented and are likely to be taken advantage of.
-Drink selection is decent and simple.

-Mario Moctezuma the manager outright lied to me when he said I'd be working only part-time on Sundays-Tuesdays. Right off the bat I was scheduled for 6 training shifts back to back without tips and expected to perform like I have no room for my personal life or worries about finances considering the low pay and delayed payments up to 2 weeks later.
-Slow days are really slow. Most business is on Friday and Saturday with overwhelming expectations and inconsistent results.
-The lack of ethics regarding worker exploitation and people in need of accommodations is concerning. We were refused breaks and disciplined for even asking.
-The head manager Mario Moctezuma who hired me is ok. His underling Casey Hodges... not so much. Look out for him, he outright refused me breaks despite having to do extra work.
-It can be hard to break into a work environment when there's little to no business. I spent half the time wondering why I was even there as I was training. This location might not be as popular as they think. Ontop of doing extra work, all the tips you get from customers go straight to your coworkers, even when they're slacking off on breaks. Giving off a total pyramid scheme business model.
-There is no working class solidarity with your peers, they will not offer any constructive advice when there's hardly business and throw you under the bus when it's convenient. I'm absolutely disgusted by the way I was treated.

I'm absolutely disgusted by the way I was treated and I have concerns for other workers who may need accommodations for rest, meal periods ect. From what I've seen, it's enough to pursue legal action and a formal investigation.

Some pros of working at torchys is they are flexible with your schedule especially if you are a student. It’s a fun working experience and you learn alot

Some cons is that it’s can be extremely busy on gamedays especially football. Also the starting pay can be low.

Of all the restaurants I've worked for this has been the most positive environment. My concerns are considered and taken seriously when I have them, I feel respected and appreciated by my peers and superiors, and this one of the better paying hourly bartending jobs before tip you could hope to get, especially considering how simple the position is.
|
Because it's a fast casual joint, you don't get as many customers as you'd potentially see at a regular sit down type bar/restaurant. There's lots of opportunity to make money and to grow in the company, but you do have to put yourself out there to do so. You will make as much money as effort you put in. Not really a con but something to be aware of
