private:touchofmodern https://www.glassdoor.com?employer_id=652682 Apr 20th, 2021 12:00AM Open Open Touch Of Modern Buyer San Francisco, CA Interesting business model, terrible management. - coworkers are nice and helpful. - good to learn about e-commerce and a different way of doing business with vendors. - concept is good, just need better curation and better partnerships with vendors. - CEO is actually very open-minded and it’s a culture where everyone can be heard. - company discount is great if you like to buy products from the site. - Buyers are Underpaid significantly but they justify it by having monthly bonuses. However, your Sales Goal changes monthly and they’ll let you know 1-2 weeks in advance before the month starts what your goal is. They’ll overwork you until your goal becomes unattainable so that you won’t hit your bonus. This will start after 6 months you’re in. You’ll end up be overworked, underpaid and not get your bonus. - Some Sales Managers have no clue what they’re doing and are just repeating what Upper Management are saying. They also don’t have a strategy for the team. To be honest, I’m actually very surprised how some Managers have become Managers. - Upper Management are unaware of how bad certain Sales Managers are or they’re just really bad themselves for accepting mediocre managers. - Buyer role is an extremely high turn over rate. To the point where a lot of Buyers just leave without having another job lined up... during a Pandemic... this is how bad it is here. - Some vendors don’t get paid and you have to fight with Management consistently to make sure your vendors get paid. For the most part, your peers and colleagues can be some of the most interesting and talented people you will encounter. Upper management will openly berate teams in Slack channels. Every time they make a mistake, they will delete their Slacks and replace it with, "This is what you should have been doing, anyways". Every time someone else makes a mistake, they will hone in on it and essentially mock the person. For example, if there are last minute schedule changes, the blame is quickly put on the buyers and not on management for communicating it. While I understand it is the responsibility of the person to know after the messaging, it's unnecessary to humiliate employees in front of each other. This is a toxic and hostile work environment where "leading from the front" means leading with fear. Quotas constantly grow every month with no rhyme or reason and regardless of the amount of booking blitzes, management is constantly telling buyers that we're behind. Daily meetings are fatigued. In one such meeting, males kept speaking over a female buyers who voiced their opinions. When they kept giving unsatisfactory answers, a female manager would take over and they showed their discontent by openly texting each other while she was speaking. This is only one example of constant disrespect towards females in the workplace. In regards to payment, believe what you read about ToMo paying vendors late. There's no transparency on why vendors are being paid late, but vendors will reach out 2-3 weeks past due date with no record of payment. Upper management constantly squashes buyers' cries for help, telling them it's the responsibility of the buyer to handle those conversations. How is there motivation to book more when it is imminent that they will continue to have a bad experience working with ToMo? You can be extremely communicative with your manager about your thoughts and express other ways you can contribute to the growth of the company, but they will still hammer the idea into your head that you have to get more bookings in. A number or nice and competent junior-level employees. CEO is experienced and a decent human being. There is rampant micromanaging and bullying in the senior ranks. Sales quotas and related KPIs are arbitrary and completely unattainable. No work life balance whatsoever. Great benefits, learn different types of positions, they pay for food on Fridays, raffled items on random days. Managers can be uptight and rude (yelling at staff for making mistakes), employees feel disrespected, When finished with work you leave early (often times not getting your full 8 hrs).
