- The super friendly man who helps clean the office

- Very suspect, unethical and unproven upper management who, upon asking previous employers and colleagues, have had a horrendous history of politicking and backstabbing
- Not focusing on the customer, when customers constantly call and leave feedback on what isn’t working
- Completely driven by revenue in hopes of inflating numbers to reach IPO without a single thought into improving the product
- Company has a CEO who has no idea what he’s doing and handed the keys to someone only interested in climbing the ladder and padding her CV, no matter whom she steps on or over
- Promised staff stock options, gave us less than a week to sign papers, and within a week of the deadline fired 1/3 of the staff
- Upon my exit interview I asked why they were laying off 30% of us and the Chief Revenue Officer said “they ran out of money” when on Friday All-Hands they keep saying they have money and are doing fine
- Has a history of giving people title raises with more responsibility and not a cent of a pay increase (I was one of them)
- Completely lost any sense of direction with constant shifts in purpose
- Zero long-term strategy
- Everyone in the executive team is white, diversity in upper management is laughable
- Very high turnover rate

Spend less time spewing theoretical beliefs and more time practising them. Stop trying to be everything to your customers when all they want is for you to get one or two things right. Do not hide bad customer reviews online and continue asking staff to lie to prospective customers. Take responsibility for your errors and over-correct, don’t deflect the blame onto others and doubling down on being ineffable. And have the decency to take pay cuts from your inflated salaries instead of firing 30% of your hard-working and customer-loving staff overnight (long before the pandemic), when the mistakes were from the upper management. Most of all, stop firing people who question you, the company and customers lose if management suffers from groupthink.

One weird company

Some colleagues are intelligent, some are friendly, and some are actually sincere.
Good annual leave.

It might seem like the founders have little idea about running the business. Can their work experience prior to starting the company be a good illustration of that? Maybe, but then, the ego does a good job of compensating for the lack of vision.
Top management's competence is questionable at best. Flashy titles raise doubts in having any substance in such a small startup, especially considering the predaceous enthusiasm with which some managers/directors gnaw their way up the ever-volatile company structure. They can also be quite perfidious behind their friendly smile.
You might notice a strange symptom in the company. Periodically launching campaigns only to see things reversed back to the status quo several months later. No visible accountability or transparency. It seems like it is stuck in this weird time loop of constant castling, of performing same actions, but with the hope of seeing a result that is different from the previous. What is also notable is the disconnectedness between what they say and what they do, all soaked in wishful thinking and talking big, with little real progress.
The company is still in a startup phase, although it is around for many years. And yet the long anticipated breakthrough has not come. I'll let you hypothesise on the reasons, but I think it might all be quite clear. If they ever grow out of their sandbox... they will have to face the reality of knowing.

Experience in the company is mostly what you make out of it

One of the most friendly, helpful and intelligent people I've worked with. You learn a lot but like most startups, you would have to take charge of your own growth. Onboarding was almost non-existent when I joined but have gotten slightly better. It really depends on the time you join but generally there's been a good amount of thought put into who should do what and why. I love that this is a remote-friendly office and people are mostly okay with you taking some time off to work from home. The amount of paid time off (20 days) is also a huge plus.

There's been quite a bit of change in focus over the last year across the organisation which manifests in hiring spikes that have to be ultimately let go. There's also a lot less accountability than expected for some of the disastrous campaigns that were ultimately launched without sufficient planning for proper execution. This has led to a lack of trust and higher than usual attrition within marketing and customer support teams.

There are some amazing people there (and many more that were there but recently got let go due to the fact that they have no money)
|
Upper management in Singapore make false promises that never go anywhere. They are a sinking ship that does not value their employees. Pay is basic and in sales the quota is unrealistic, in Q3 not one BDR hit 100% attainment. They blame everyone else but themselves for lack of leads. For a startup they take an awfully long time to make decisions & pivot.
