A .net programmer can work on core Java and a Java developer can work on .Net. A windows system administrator can work on Linux and vice versa. The president micro manages. This is a software firm. Therefore, you end up with business executives making technical decisions. In addition, middle managers are powerless to stand up to him. Fridge is stocked with free food and beverages. Sometimes you can work from home. Flex hours. Most people come into work at 10-10:30am. 1. Low morale among current employees. Two people quit every month because upper management shows little respect for the work that they do.. Layoffs are now frequent too. 2. 50% of the employees are contractors. It's normal to see new faces almost every week. 3. The benefits are sparse. No dental insurance, life insurance, or disability insurance are offered. 4. Trouble getting funding to keep operations going. 5. Software life cycle is waterfall. So expect to put in long hours, and in the end the software still has problems and the customer always rejects it. 6. Poor communication between depts. People tend to work in silos. 7. It doesn’t matter how intelligent, affable, persuasive, or savvy a person is, if they are prone to rationalizing unethical behavior based upon current or future needs, or to stroke their own ego, they will eventually fall prey to their own undoing. Optics over ethics is not a formula for success. Poorly managed projects. Competitive pay, location, technology, development, experienced investors. Micro-management, poor management from mid-level managers, lack of respect for developers, lack of respect for all employees not in management position, outdated mid-level managers, inexperienced mid-level managers. Unprofessional work environment. No work/life balance. Employees are dissatisfied due to micro-management by mid-level managers. Although this company has good well rounded people, it also has it's share of managers that abuse their power and position. If you are looking for a true start-up experience, I do not recommend this company.
