Insolvent

People in the trenches actually care about the success of the company
The company is financially insolvent. This was a cause and effect of:
Financial mismanagement
Executive infighting
Disengaged partners (Adobe)
Excessive employee churn

Horrible, Horrible Place to Work
Not really any pros, except a somewhat "flexible" work schedule?
Where should I begin....I've been working at this company for a few years now and I should have seen the signs when I first joined: lackluster technology trying to play "keep up", fistfuls of money being wasted on upper management and sales execs who don't contribute anything to the company, a CEO and CTO with no distinct direction of where to take the business. There's a handful of unappreciated, hard-working employees that are responsible for all the heavy lifting / grunt work day in and day out, but get paid the least. Meanwhile, others in executive management positions are essentially invisible and radio silent for weeks, expecting others to pick up their slack and, even worse, manage relationships with clients poorly causing those clients to seek business partnerships elsewhere. Company culture? There is none. When the money was available, there would be "snacks" in the kitchen. But there hasn't been a company outing in years, and even the last holiday party was canceled. No bonuses, no employee appreciation. I would be surprised if the company lasted 2018.

Stop spending hundreds of thousands of dollars on people who don't know what they're doing, don't know the product, and are unwilling to roll up their sleeves to get work done. If the company is failing and running out of money, it's because all the money goes down the drain of terrible hiring decisions.

Is the ship sinking?
Select few individuals who want to see the company succeed. They work really hard and try to move the needle every day
Offices have a nice view of the mountains.
New CEO occupies largest and nicest conference room as his office, gives the impression he can't sit amongst the team.
Large portion of the organization needs to be axed but the new CEO can't see it. Cut off the growth before it takes over and has a negative impact on the company.
Culture is a joke here. The wrong individuals are leading the culture efforts and activities.

Great people; lack of real product vision
Wonderful tight group of truly brilliant people. Was probably on the best team of my career. Lots of fun things at the office.
There just isn't a real product. Smoke and mirrors. This came from a lot of executive in-fighting that I hope they've resolved.

I've been here a while. For the first time ever, the entire company is aligned behind one vision. Everyone is working together to drive the same results. Engineering, marketing, sales and account management all lined up. It's exciting. Dead weight and negativity gone. First time I ever remember the messaging, the product, the leadership and even the board behind the same thing.
Still a few negative people, but they are gradually moving on. Some people have a hard time seeing the full picture.

Do your career a favor and keep looking
Great view of the mountains from the office.
Looks like the review written on Nov 1 is written by the CEO or a shill - try not to be so obvious next time.
After years of mismanagement by previous CEOs, the board brought in a new CEO to mismanage some more. This is a zombie company. They have gone through several rounds of layoffs since last year, and still haven't hit bottom.
Seriously out-dated product and not enough resources to modernize. product management and engineering teams are creating some momentum, but CEO doesn't understand the industry, how to run a company, or how to sell. Problem is, the sales team doesn't know how to sell either. You see where this is going. There were some good people, but they didn't last because of all the politics and toxicity.

Struggling

Great technology and there is a market for it currently.
Company is having a hard time defining the ongoing strategy of the company and therefore productization has been very slow. Very competitive marketplace they exist in is rapidly catching up.

Self-starters wanting to make a big impact: welcome home!
After a painful year of restructuring a historically top heavy/top-down organization, executive leadership has been whittled down to only a few, and has become a team of capable leaders that are agile, humble, transparent, and supportive. Not the ego-driven team it once was.
If you're ready to roll up your sleeves and solve real challenges that have big impact on the business, this is the company for you. You don't have to have 20 years experience to have a voice in this company...the new executive team encourages creativity, question-asking, and provides lots of room to "flex your muscles" in a "fail fast" atmosphere.
I've worked for several startups and I can confidently say that the salaries offered here are far more competitive with corporate offers than that of a typical early to mid stage startup in Denver/Boulder.
WorkLife balance is real here. Nobody expects you to work more than 40-50 hours/week. When you're here, be ALL here and move the needle. When you're gone, unplug and be with your families. The executive team demonstrates this every day.
Benefits in general are industry standard--but our stock options are extremely generous--best I've seen from a startup out here! The board and executive team believe that staff must have "skin in the game" for a company to succeed, and built a stock structure that truly reflects that.
Candidates with the following traits would LOVE working here:
- self-starters that want to grow beyond the scope of their job description (you'll wear lots of hats here--a blast for some, and burden for others)
- love solving big challenges and want to play a significant role in finding the solution
- not afraid of risk and unknowns
- data and performance-driven (read: people who believe that bonuses and other benefits are not entitled to them, but earned via their demonstrated value to the company and its objectives)
There are definitely a handful of negative folks here that tend to take a cynical twist on everything. Every company has their conspiracy theorists and gossips, but given that we are a small team, these folks can sometimes have a negative impact on morale. That said, I have found these individuals to be those coming from more corporate backgrounds, where benefits and entitlement attitudes abound. For those that prefer to kick back in a cushy, corporate office with lots of structure and predictability, be warned: you will NOT be happy here.
But overall, the staff here want to be here, want to work hard, and want to see the company succeed.

Be quicker to let go of managers that don't demonstrate the values we support as an organization. As a small company, one bad egg wreaks havoc on company morale. Thankfully, I believe that the exec team has restructured itself to be the supportive, agile, and innovative team it needs to be to see growth. But naturally, some residual distrust as a result of those former leaders has inevitably left a bad taste in the mouths of some really great, really talented people.

Awful
At the time I was there, some really intelligent and dedicated people did their best to navigate through the muck.
The muck resembled quick sand the majority of the time. 1st party technology is based on a great idea but their very poorly executed excel based (!) software and go-to-market strategy, coupled with completely (and I mean 100%) aimless leadership, resulted in what amounts to a HUGE waste of time. Conflict of interest between media and publishing groups created more issues. Departments do not work as a team.
