This will be one of the worse jobs I have ever had in my entire life. First off, it’s boring here for the most part. You do the same checks and stuff every day.
Some of the supervisors are terrible. Some won’t even train you. Others will show you something once and expect you to know it. Everyone here is miserable. The turnover rate is super high.
Swing shift is the worse! When I first started off on swing shift I experienced the hostile environment. Coworkers think that they’re supervisors. These coworkers would work dispatch, get attitudes and become impatient with me because apparently I was expected to know everything already, yell me over the radio, then would give me pop quizzes. Supervisors did nothing to stop it. Then I had other issues in which I would be the tower unit and apparently I didn’t know which floor I just did or even cleared and the dispatcher would argue about it when they would have nothing to prove it. Another issue was my first week training on the dispatch position. My first week on dispatch and my coworkers acted like 13 year olds and purposely gave me a hard time and gave me an attitude because I was still learning and somehow I was expected to know everything all ready.
On swing shift you’re always rushed to do things. You have 8 hours and you’re always rushed to do checks, do patrols and etc. Then you’re expected to move fast between the floors.
Coworkers think that they’re supervisors and will bark orders at you over the radio even when they’re not on dispatch and you are. Coworkers will try and micromanage you and your every move before you get a chance to do anything. Coworkers will stick their nose in your business and demand that the supervisors tell them if they gave you permission to leave early.
Coworkers won’t help you and will instead write in the DAR an entry that will make you look bad and embarrass you. Even when you’re exhausted from working mandatory OT and they keep calling you to do stuff.
Supervisors will jump on your back that you’re not pulling on the doors hard enough. When the system isn’t working properly due to IT.
A new hire gets picked on during briefings to answer all questions regarding policy and stuff.
You’re expected to keep moving for the entire shift except for your breaks which are short. You leave being exhausted. OT is mandatory and you’ll get double points and possibly written up for it.
I tried to transfer to another department but they denied me because my 6 months wasn’t up yet. I was only 3 weeks away from it. They hired a person from the outside to get the position.
I got a half a point for not clocking out when I did a 12 hour shift on my day off. I volunteered to work that day.
This place will exhaust you. The job isn’t made easy when it can be. The post can’t be allowed to rotate. Supervisors will become too lazy to respond to a report and pass it down to someone else. Even to another shift.
Negative minded coworkers come in daily and find the little things to complain about and make a huge issue about it. Such as logging in a key into the wrong book.
I regret having left my casino job for this place. This is not a good place to work.

You guys know what the issues are and nothing is being done to fix them. People will keep quitting. There’s no need to have people learn how to work all 3 shifts because they’re all the same. Rotate the post.

sense of community was strong. Benefit was great, free lunch, free parking, hotel discounts, lots of vacations and paid time off. There were always some kind of giveaway event and I won 2 nights stay in a luxury hotel near by, TVs, airline vouchers, furniture, dinner at some fancy restaurants and more over the years. They seem to care more about the personalities than background, and growing people in the company. I enjoyed working there and learned so much.

Hours were insane. It was hard to have a work-to-life balance.
Even with the vacations hours you earned, it was difficult to use on times you wanted to.
