Great program - great culture
Denver-based with a very solid curriculum. Very student-focused - they will work with you to make your experience great and make sure you can get through (mental health counseling provided to Colorado students and various avenues for financial support).
Currently digital given pandemic - have heard great tings about the in-person program aspects.

Keep up with the instructor surveys and make sure to stay on top of senior instructors - make sure they are not lagging in their commitment. Some of the best instructors I've had (defined as those that have made my time the most challenging, but fruitful in the long run) have been junior/new instructors.

A great place to work
- Great people
The people I worked with at Turing are some of the kind and thoughtful individuals I've come across.
- Great culture & mission
Their mission is "to unlock human potential by training a diverse and inclusive student body to succeed in high-fulfillment technical careers." and it's literally written on the walls. Perhaps it's a non-profit thing but man the staff truly believes in this mission and considers it in everything they do.
- Rewarding work
I got to teach people working to reinvent themselves and level up. It was great to see students grow and transform.
- Intellectually stimulating
The staff at Turing pretty much continuously looking to improve the way they teach and interact with the students. In my three months there I went to at least six all staff meetings on improving process.
- Mentorship & growth
I was an inexperienced instructor and they gave me the resources, connections, and time to grow my skill in this area. Things like 1:1 meetings, lesson evaluations, and a culture of curiosity were key.
- Teaching isn't software development
The reason I don't work at Turing today is because teaching didn't scratch the same itch as software development, and that's something I personally need. Neither good nor bad, but know solving instructional problems has a different structure than designing a good API or class.
- Jeff Casimir can be a polarizing individual
I'd say that the vast majority of people like Jeff. Some do not. I can't describe the particular mechanics of how this goes down, but maybe be aware of which camp you end up in before you consider working here.

Good Group Doing Rewarding Work
Wonderful group of people with lots of personality and a good balance of commitment to the work they're doing and ability to have fun. Organization is relatively small (30ish employees), but feels larger because of the extended community of alums and current students. Students are generally a positive bunch and committed to learning in part because of the sacrifice of time and money that they are making to attend. Opportunities exist to continue learning from guests who come to the school (guest speakers and week long visitors who will schedule time to pair with students and instructors). As a non-profit, Turing also works to provide space for students and staff to engage in difficult conversations about issues in the tech industry. Week long breaks every six weeks allow for travel and time to recharge. Students and staff can be inspiring and Turing provides opportunities to celebrate with Demo Nights for student projects and student graduations.
Consistently having discussions about issues in the tech space can be tiring when you choose to engage fully. It's important work, and I'm glad that we do it, but it definitely is a commitment that takes work.

Not just a job...I joined a community
What I love most about this place is the community. Students, alumni, mentors, and industry experts who support our students and staff help make this place an inclusive and encouraging place to work. Most importantly, the Turing staff are super smart, passionate, and make me laugh. I always feel welcomed and appreciated for the work I do. I also love that I have ownership over my daily decisions and can see my work positively affect the whole community.
Additionally, I'm really satisfied with my ability to balance my work and life. In my previous work experience, I would work 13-hour days every day and it was always difficult to take time away from my work. However, I'm thankful that at Turing, my schedule is flexible enough that I can easily manage both my family life and work without feeling too stressed out or overwhelmed.
I'm about to hit my two-year anniversary working at Turing. It's been exciting to see how much we've grown, and I can't wait to see what we do next.
You have a lot of autonomy over your work. You have to be ok with taking risks which mean there's a possibility of failing. You just need to look at that failure and figure out what to do differently next time.

Evolving
No company or team gets everything right, but Turing is constantly evolving for the better. Over the years we've evolved just enough "process" to keep things on track without stifling innovation. Staff members are empowered to make change and experiment. There's also a very real push for balance, with frequent days off and encouragement to leave work at work.
Turing is still a startup after three years in operation. There are some gaps and headaches. If you're expecting your job to be totally stable, this might not be the place. The nature of the work means that there's always more that can be done, and work-o-holics can find themselves working too much.

Respect and Appreciate Everyone You Work With
Everyone employed at Turing is highly skilled, intelligent and diligent. It's a great, high performing and competitive team.
It's a job where you get to watch people get the skills to double their salaries. Getting to see someone who works incredibly hard over 7 months go from being a security guard to making real money and starting a path to a career is incredibly rewarding.
Working with humans as opposed to just code can be exhausting. You get so many wins, but this is a very hard program so not everyone passes. Even though Turing works really hard to encourage instructors and staff to take a lot of time off, it's hard to shut off your computer and not respond to a struggling student at 6pm.
