They lead by example and have a good pulse on the organization. - Challenging work environment: Uhuru acquired my agency, and I was asked to own the position I would be stepping into. As someone that ran their own company, I loved the idea of the challenge. I've been supported and challenged in ways that have expanded my capabilities and knowledge. This environment isn't for everyone, but if you like being empowered to make your own decisions and creative problem solving, there's no job more rewarding. - Career-oriented: Uhuru truly wants to see every one of their employees succeed - in career and personal life. They've created the systems and have dedicated personnel that focuses on the advancement of every employee. They want to know what you care about, what you want from your career and construct the way to get there. This isn't the company for those that want a "job" - punch the clock, be left alone, and go home to forget about your day. - Remote Work: You can literally work from anywhere at any time. This isn't a "work-from-home" job where you have to be at your desk between set hours. They hire adults and expect you to do the work you've set out to do. Basically, show up to meetings, hyper communicate with your team, and get your work done. This kind of environment is not for those that need their handheld. It takes desire and discipline. Growth-minded: the entire organization embodies the growth-mindset, and it starts at the top with the owners! When a company is led by people who constantly seek to grow, then the byproduct of that is that every employee has a voice. Input is encouraged, and as we always say, "the glass is always broken." This way of operating isn't suited for the type that likes to complain about things not working or going their way. They acknowledge things aren't perfect and encourage them to bring solutions. The company is growing rapidly, which can be uneasy for people with a fixed mindset but is exhilarating for those who want to grow. To sum it up, I decided to sell my agency to join an amazing team. It felt like home since day 1. They have under promised and over delivered on everything we agreed on so far. I look forward to the next 5 years with Uhuru! - They do not have health insurance, yet! I know this is something they are working on. It has to be challenging to give healthcare to a globally distributed workforce. - Didn't get to go on a company retreat this year! As I approach my two-year anniversary (and especially in light of two negative and harmful reviews that have appeared), I thought it would be a great time to reflect on my experience here at Uhuru. I started with Uhuru on the sales side of the business and was immediately exposed to several growth opportunities. As a native of agency work, I'd like to share two experiences that fully illustrate the loyalty, respect, and admiration I have for the CEO and President of the company. In the summer of 2019, while I was still on the sales side of the house, our CEO made a bold decision to hire an entire team to support my colleague and me. This team generated leads on my behalf, created video production for me, assisted me with coordinating calls, and creating high impact value propositions. Most agencies require that their sales reps engage in outbound calling or working through cold referrals and this is more support than I've received even as a sales rep at Fortune 500 companies. At the beginning of this year, when Covid struck and many agencies were hanging by a thread, the CEO made yet another bold decision to grow our company through programmatic M&A. What really needs to be highlighted here is that he saved every person's job in our company and kept us from having to reduce our staff. In fact, through that programmatic M&A outreach, I was promoted to a leadership position and one that I hold with the utmost integrity. When I read that someone would leave a completely unfounded review about "false promises" in our M&A agreements, I knew the intent of the review had to be malicious. In my position, I join our CEO on almost every call and meeting through the entire life cycle of these acquisitions. To suggest that we ever have - or ever would - create false promises isn't just a stab at our CEO. It's a smear on me and the five other members of our team that work tirelessly as ambassadors and stewards to promote the culture, processes, and growth opportunities of Uhuru. As for our clients and the turnover time, once again, this is an unfounded claim. Some clients have a faster turnover based on the types of engagements they hire us for. One of my clients has not only been here through the majority of my employment but continues to add services to their program. So in addition to being provided a full-on support team and a promotion in two years, I'd like to share personal experiences I have been able to achieve while working at Uhuru. While it's rather unfortunate that a reviewer here felt that they were "micromanaged" and overworked, I couldn't disagree more. I have exceptional work balance and have been able to pursue multiple personal projects and my day is planned around my own personal efficiency. In fact, our environment favors those that can plan effectively and we provide every tool to help organize time. In my time here, I have been able to live on a different continent, travel extensively, participate in personal trainings that required I sometimes worked shorter days, gain multiple professional certifications, and really enjoyed meeting my teammates at some awesome retreats. All I can say is this: as someone who has spent a lengthy amount of time in the agency world, it really isn't going to be for everyone. You won't do well if you feel easily overwhelmed and don't like interfacing with clients. As a last note, I found it disheartening that anyone would mention a "secretive environment" when I've always been encouraged to provide my feedback to the CEO and President, whether it was favorable or lent itself to needed change. It has been a life-changing blast! Our Lead Gen Team has tripled, everyone in the team developed and became better people, more organized, better professionals, and became specialists at what they do. Company culture is great and constant, even though the company is evolving and growing at a crazy speed and spread throughout crazy geographies and time zones. Just in the last quarter, we had 2 acquisitions merge amazing teams into our company. If that won't polish up your name memorizing skills - nothing will. There is quite a lot of unique people who work at Uhuru, and we celebrate that personal uniqueness and cultural diversity - it makes us stronger. I am grateful for all of the opportunities I've been given, especially the one to grow and do what I'm good at. No one is forced to do the tasks or projects that don't suit them, but the leadership rather leverages everyone's strong suits and allows you to explore them. It's a true privilege to be able to organize your own working hours and schedule and work anywhere in the world and still be productive. Leadership is really firm on leading by example, and they are great and kind people, that never lose tracks of overall performance and goals we set for ourselves personally, and as teams and company. Working at Uhuru is not for everybody - if you do not have a positive and growth-oriented mindset and are looking for a 9-5 repeatable gig - definitely not for you. As we're a global, fully remote, and distributed team - more in-person interactions or get-togethers would be really good. Covid put a serious strain on that in 2020, and the foreseeable future. All of the reviews on this website are great because the CEO asks employees to write them after they've been with the company for 90 days, sometimes less. AND he invites employees to write the review through their company email so they cannot update a review once they have left the company. Uhuru has many systems in place that enable them to micromanage employees and squeeze as much work out as humanly possible. There's a lot of gas lighting that goes on within this company. Raises are minimal. The yearly bonus they claim to offer doesn't exist. They could care less about the mental health of employees. One employee was only able to take two days of vacation for over a year. The only benefit they offer is 15 days of PTO. Most employees are grossly underpaid and under-appreciated. It is clear that a lot of thought and care has gone into employee experience and ensuring they are aligned with the company's mission of leaving people better than they found them. It's incredibly refreshing to work for a company that is open, honest in their goals. Starting a remote position was daunting at first, but my onboarding was well-laid out and executed. I quickly connected with my team over our daily team meetings and Slack conversations. The transition from a traditional workplace to remote was fairly seamless, with a supportive and empathetic team. Uhuru provides an abundance of resources and opportunities for those willing to ask. I am consistently motivated and inspired to grow as a person and a professional. As others have mentioned there is not a comprehensive benefits package in place but I know it is in the works. Otherwise, more opportunities for casual socialization would be neat outside of IMing. The experience has been overwhelmingly positive. Here are the highlights: 1. Collaboration and teamwork - the team does a great job of working together and relying on each other's strengths 2. Process/systems - while this is always a work in progress Uhuru tries to have a process for everything to help us scale 3. Communication - we are a remote team and if we didn't communicate effectively we would fail. Overall, the team makes hyper-communication a priority 4. Clients - we work with some incredible clients who are making an impact on the world. 5. Training - the opportunities to learn and get more training are really good here 6. Growth - the company approaches even economic downturns with a growth mindset and this helps our team feel secure even in times of uncertainty Like any company there is always room for improvement. :) We actually had a conversation as a team about that recently, and it's cool to work in a place where we can have open discussions about how to improve. Some things I would like to see improved are - 1. More in-person events. Because we are remote, we don't see each other often. I'd like to spend more face time with my team. Covid threw a wrench in that this year, unfortunately. 2.
