I have been at unboxed for a year now and everyday I feel like it just gets better. This team and company is like a family and they care about their employees. We have the best work life balance and do a lot of fun activities through out the year, even now with most things being virtual we have still kept it up. I have the most dedicated and talented people working along side me, work life is positive and happy. We all work so good together to keep our clients happy and deliver the best products. I feel so valued as an employee and my work gets noticed and appreciated. We have some very motivational and inspiring leaders and their positive attitudes gets passed on to us. Unboxed is the best company I have ever worked for, and I am so lucky to be apart of this amazing company.

Top-tier benefits for a company this size - the generous PTO policy allows you to maintain a healthy work/life balance. Cheery atmosphere, coworkers are very helpful, patient, and talented. Always a treat to talk it up with just about anyone. Pay is also great for the area.
Let me also say this - they treated everyone extremely well during the beginning of COVID-19. Quick move to remote, pandemic bonuses, and helped purchase necessary equipment. These moments typically show you who people truly are.
We work in a variety of industries, ranging from SME to Enterprise sized clients. The range of clients and solutions keeps it interesting. Training Content is truly high quality and you will feel proud of the work.
Regarding business outlook - all indicators point to increased investment in the L&D/Training industry. Given remote work and blended delivery will continue to grow, you won't be worried about the company's health.

Smaller, growing companies often struggle in similar areas. For example, didn't have a development plan until ~6 months into the job and 1:1's aren't up to par with previous experiences. It often feels like you are pushed towards what the company needs as opposed to exploring where the individual wants to grow.
Onboarding was also a slight struggle, as there's no formalized training and it left me feeling unprepared. There's certainly a growth opportunity to align the training, development, and onboarding with the mission/value statements + the work we do for clients.
Agree with previous reviews on resource squeezes and role ambiguity. Again, these are small concerns and if you've worked at any SME Business before, it's expected. It's difficult to juggle internal processes when the primary concern is delivery and revenue.

Great culture and people

The people are very talented and great to work with. I trust them and can rely on them to give great feedback and advice. Unboxed's products and services are unique and truly top notch. The culture and office environment promote many positive experiences.

The pace often feels rushed leading to sloppy processes from time to time. The team is talented enough to deliver under tight deadlines but sometimes at a cost (morale, burnout, etc.). As a smaller company, it sometimes feels resource-constrained where you know what needs to get done but don't quite have enough people or money to do it right.

Unboxed takes good care of its employees -- from the unlimited snacks, drinks, and coffee to the encouraging, weekly staff meetings where managers give "shout outs" and everyone celebrates successes together. Only place I've ever worked where I felt work-life balance was important to the top executives. Full time employees get 6 weeks PTO + holidays.

You will have to be flexible and wear a lot of hats - but I consider that a perk.

2018 is going to be an exciting year

Unboxed is relocating this month to a beautiful new office in downtown Richmond. We all are looking forward to our projected growth, current new business, and new surroundings. 2017 brought some some strong new hires that have strengthened the team, added to a positive culture, and been smart hires for the company. These new hires are mostly from growth, not back-filling.

Incredible people = Positive environment

I’m so impressed with the people who work at Unboxed. They are passionate, friendly, and energetic and because of that, the environment radiates these traits. The teams are very creative and fun while still being wildly efficient. They will jump in to help each other even if someone is just having a bad day, are able to quickly pivot while still keeping their positive mindset.
I feel very empowered to make decisions or changes and I know I will be supported by my manager and by the teams too.
I’ve gotten the chance to work on things I haven’t had the opportunity to in the past, so I feel like I’m always learning. After being in the IT industry for 17 years, I truly feel like I’ve found my tribe.

Because we are so client-focused and need to be able to react quickly, plans change frequently. In order to work here and be successful without feeling stressed, you will need to be able to pivot quickly. I personally feel like this could also be a pro, but I point this out because Unboxed is not a place for people who have difficulty with changing their original plan. Flexibility is a must.

It's great to be part of a company that not only stresses work-life balance, but also truly invests in the professional goals of its employees. Management is fantastic about caring for its employees' needs when it comes to professional and personal growth.

Role ambiguity. For some, including myself, this can be considered a pro at times, because employees have the ability to expand their role, learn new things, and meet the needs of a small company. Don't expect to be sat down on the first day and told everything you will be doing on a day-to-day basis.

As a small, young company, Unboxed and its team members understand that growth is the only constant. This makes for flexible management, transparent leadership, and a culture open to new ideas. Company owners and senior managers are approachable and willing to discuss new ways of doing things from anybody in the culture. Additionally, because of its size and close-knitness, its easy to lose sight of work/life balance. To counter this, Unboxed constantly keeps team health as top of mind. While difficult to manage and stay ahead of, I've found that leadership makes this a priority.

We work at a fast clip. Folks that do well here are comfortable with persevering AND pivoting often and have a tolerance for ambiguity. Sometimes this can be exhausting, and herein lies the con.
That being the case, for people who thrive in a truly fast paced, innovative, and challenging work environment, you'll find supportive team members and a creative and collaborative team to back you up and encourage you (back to pro).
