Great Colleagues, Bad Bureaucracy

I worked at FAS for four years and really enjoyed working with pretty much everyone I met there. People are generally nice, down to earth, serious about their work, sometimes even quite passionate about it. It also provides good life-work balance (40 hr work week with some limited telecommuting options).

Depending on your specific position, the work itself can be incredibly bureaucratic. Processes don’t always make sense and a lot of your add value as an employee comes down to knowing all the quirks of glitchy computer systems and nonsensical SOPs

Really enjoyed working for the USDA in this capacity. Only left because it was a seasonal position. Good fun team to work with and we didn't have to take ourselves too seriously.

Sometimes coordination with everyone was an issue and the seasonal part is the worst part.
