I worked at Dearborn campus as a research assistant and then a teacher.
Overall good place to work, management is good, payment is fair and very nice flexible benefits.

The resources available to the patients and staff
|
The staff care is outstanding, in spite of the negative minded environment management has created. Taking away retirement packages of which they used to off set low salaries. Now the salaries are being negotiated down along with no retirement. When caregivers should be compensated more given our social crisis they have chosen to take more
|
Equipment and the care of the staff
|
Low salaries, no retirement package, terrible department atmosphere, large divide between management and therapists

This position is important as it provides an opportunity for D1 and D2 students to receive additional help in pre-clinical areas they are concerned with or would like some extra guidance in. The Guided Study Sessions are in the Simulation Lab. There will be a way for you to sign-up for the sessions you are able to help at. You are not expected to help at each session. As a Guide you may also be presented with some additional opportunities to do one-to-one didactic tutoring.

Very fun workplace & great people all-around
|
I worked here years ago, but UM-Flint Recreation Center was a fantastic place. There are very few full-time staff, but they are all excellent, and the students that cover most positions are charming and well-trained. I had a wonderful experience & would be happy to return
|
The experience, the great coworkers

Pay but it's student work, so no major complaints

Overall still #1 in Michigan
|
I always wanted to work for U of M because they’re the top hospital in Michigan. Their reputation speaks for itself. They had a 2:1 401k match, tuition reimbursement, yearly pay raise, top doctors working for them, & I’ve always had a good experience when I’ve had to see a doctor.
After working for them for a little over two years, I still can see how they’re number 1. However, they needed to treat their employees better during COVID. All benefits were stripped & employees in some departments didn’t even get COVID hazard pay, but we’re still expected to work right alongside COVID patients. There were designated locations for COVID positive patients to attend but then after a while, it seemed as if, since so many patients complained, they just let patients go to whatever location they wanted, even if the location they went to wasn’t stocked or prepared for COVID patients. I understand patients come first, but just because they don’t like having to drive ten minutes down the road to the COVID designated location doesn’t mean you just bow to their will & complaints to appease to them, & then not even prepare your employees for the storm coming to them.

Temp position is an excellent way to gain experience in research!
|
As a Temporary Research Assistant I have been blown away by the opportunities I’ve had the privilege of participating in.
Management is awesome where I worked (UMTRI). They really had my back during Covid. This was a great way of gaining experience in the research world.

Good job overall but not a lot of space for innovation
|
There can be a lot of red tape involved for even minor sub-team decisions depending on the unit you work for. While the benefits are top notch and the pay is generally above average, innovation is often stamped out in favor of rote programming and practices.

I worked as an Instructional Aide for a class and really enjoyed it. My supervisors were incredibly kind and helpful, and the students were passionate about the class. Super flexible and understanding. Pay was great as well.
