If you want to advance, you basically need to wait for someone to retire. The management is disorganized, and there is a high turn-over rate with low-level employees. Management is based on personal vendettas/opinions as opposed to appropriate management choices. That being said, some departments are managed much better than other departments. However, mine was/is managed extremely poorly (ironic considering it is the School of Business). Most people are out for themselves, not interested in working together to create a better product, but instead interested in supporting their egos. Be prepared to deal with a lot of big personalities (students and professors), though honestly, this is probably the most enjoyable part of the job. The administration jobs, themselves, aren't challenging and can get pretty dull. This has somewhat to do with a 'get your work done and go home' mentality. It is difficult to get much of anything done from a procurement standpoint, as UT is a public institution and requires excessive approvals. This can be frustrating, but is to be expected.
