After some ups and downs on the recruiting / retention front the management team has really done a great job to hire great people and also create a CLEAR career path for every hire. The company has already cared about it's people, but just didn't have their act together when it came to creating scalable careers -- not the case any more. I've been here through all of this, and have never been more excited about the future here. This was already said in another review but the managers we've been hiring and promoting are all bought in on this.

company is very metrics heavy and requires weekly metrics reporting / ownership, which isn't bad, but you're required to be on top of your metrics at any given moment. just a different environment for me from my last company.

Market opportunity - The legal industry is massive and its business model / practices have not changed much in the wake of technological advances. UpCounsel is a direct challenge to the traditional legal business model and, if done properly, the payoff could be huge.
Disciplined Team Growth - The company has been smart about growing the team. While lots of companies hire for the sake of “growth” UpCounsel has been very thoughtful about automating tasks so that the team can stay lean and efficient.
Data Driven - UpCounsel runs lots of experiments and looks to data before making large bets on product changes.
Employee Impact - As mentioned above, UpCounsel has kept the team lean and relies heavily on all team members to make an impact. If you have an idea to help the business and are able to demonstrate its importance to the company, you will be given the opportunity to turn it into a reality.

Individual Growth / Mobility - Because the team has grown relatively slowly for a San Francisco tech company, it can sometimes feel that as an individual that you have nowhere to grow within the company. Highly Recommend -- Amazing Team
|

We're actually having an impact on the world. A lot of businesses use UpCounsel to handle legal -- something which has traditionally been expensive, and in accessible. We provide that access and our customer love it. To be able to empower people to pursue their entrepreneurial passions -- both lawyers and businesses -- provides a lot of purpose to what we do each day. Next, the people at UpCounsel are incredible. We've hired slower that other companies I've worked at and it's helped to keep the caliber high -- intelligence, culture, thoughtfulness. I've formed some meaningful relationships which I haven't been able to do in other companies.

It's a really hard industry -- with competitors that have been around for decades that have much bigger brands. It's a lot of work to just get an inch. Having said that, this is also an opportunity. Everyone can make an impact at UC and leave their mark here in a way that pretty unique for this industry -- and if we can pull it off, we're a tech leader in an industry without any.
