Updater does a great job of hiring / maintaining talented and smart people! I'm always learning something new from my co-workers and they're just as interested in learning from my experience. The culture supports collaboration, communication and providing employees avenues for professional growth. There will always be pain-points in high-growth organizations and Updater is good at knowing it's blind-spots. Very intelligent and are there to work. Deceitful leadership, says they care about their employees, when in all honesty - they don't. You are in constant worry of job security, and switching gears often because leadership can't make up their minds on the direction of the company. -1.0 NEGATIVE -1.0 NEGATIVE 24.0 1.0 1.0 1.0 1.0 1.0 1.0 837739 Open Lying to employees about having stable jobs after an acquisition then once systems are learned, perform a massive layoff, and then apply for Payroll Protection from the US Gov't??? We gave UHS the best year in its history and we are thanked by being laid off with a crappy severance package. The 'President' of the company is a salesman, should have never been a President/CEO - He didn't lift a finger to save the employees, just sat back and let it happen. The company had millions in reserve and was profitable even when the Covid crisis started - but laid 75 people off as a 'Reduction of Force' due to Covid. I call BS on this. The senior leadership are crooks, and lack the balls to tell employees the truth of why they're being laid off after years of extra hours, hard work, and stress. The CEO overextended his company, burnt through a ton of cash through mismanagement, and lays it at the feet of his employees. Class act for sure. One sign of a company in trouble - burn through investment money on tshirts, coffee cups etc. to employees, then cry 'We have no money'. Yeah... Planned since the acquisition. You'll always have the opportunity to learn something new or take on new responsiblities. A good place to start your career if you're willing to work hard and get a little underpaid in exchange for a ton of good, start-up experience. They have no clear direction as far as the future of the company, resulting in several rounds of harsh, unexpected lay-offs. Upper management (VPs, etc.) are not the best communicators, and say "transparency" is their number one value - but their actions say otherwise. You can never expect what new responsibility is going to be pushed on you and you might have 2, 3, or 4 jobs to do at once with compensation and an actual title that don't always actually reflect your worth and what you bring the company. Cold brew and beer on tap, unlimited snacks, and annual ski trips are great, but they don't make up for being underpaid, having poor management, and experiencing a lack of career growth. The good news is that since most of the company was recently laid off, there will barely be anyone left to see Updater close its doors when management finally realizes they can't continue. At the very least, I can say that I had a lot of fun when things were good, and I learned a lot about the industry and my field from my extremely talented colleagues. Based on my experience with the product, I'd say that it's practically useless because nothing about it is a must-have. It's also my understanding that the product doesn't produce significant revenue. As far as I know, Updater has been in business for something like 7 years and still hasn't seen profitability. To convince everyone that we were still a viable business, the leadership team re-strategized our goals and rolled out some new unreachable target every few months, but insisted on doubling down on the same ineffective business practices to get there. No one that leaves can post anything. In addition, one of their acquired companies no longer even has a Glassdoor page. It was rated in the low 2s so they took it down instead of merging the two together in order to maintain image. Transparency is a strong suit of theirs. - Communication is great. You will have more personal slack channels related to pizza, dogs, and cats than you have actual work related channels dedicated to getting work done. - In my opinion, there is a leadership problem at this company that trickles down. The CEO of Updater suffers from an acute case of Founderitis and has the empathy of a rock. There is a lot of ruling through fear instead of respect. - You have unlimited PTO but there is so much work to do that you will be expected to be responsive even if you are out of office.
