There were numerous opportunities to get your hands into multiple jobs including marketing and sales. The company was disorganized and chaotic. There was very little respect for employees and little interest in hearing about new solutions for doing things that weren't working. There's room for entry level people and experienced people, so you always see a mix of experience levels in the office. This is great for younger people that want to jump in the water and learn and also get mentorship. You'll have the opportunity to make a noticeable impact on the way the company runs, which is very cool and something that a lot of other startups over-promise but under-deliver. UpOut also lets you easily move in to various roles such as sales, marketing, operations, and customer support. Experience in any one of these roles is paramount to a career in tech/startups outside of engineering and most of us worked in at least two of them at some point. Another great factor is that UpOut is in the events/entertainment industry, which is a really fun world to work in and a pretty forgiving industry. People actually want to read the articles you write about events (marketing role), or want help getting their event out there (sales + operations), so it's much easier to jump in and have success. You also get to go to the events UpOut is promoting and it's not unusual for the event organizers to give you the VIP treatment! UpOut has the typical startup jitters you see around here. There are a Lot of social activities one can partake in, the job has a lot of flexibility, you get to enjoy a lot of events. If one pleases you can get to enjoy the work hard, play hard feel. You get to have different roles for different tasks. All in all you get to participate in different aspects and feel that your contributions- in whichever sense are valid and appreciated.
