Small company with lots of creative freedom

-Work Culture: Uprise Art is a very nourishing environment. The majority of full time staff are women in their mid to late 20s and there's a lot of emphasis on training and professional development, from things as small as how to conduct email correspondence to customer service role-playing exercises on a semi-annual basis. Most projects include a very collaborative approach and it's not uncommon that initiatives are the joint responsibility of a few different stakeholders. Meetings are held in a relatively free format where participants can share their opinions, or not. Employees learn a lot quickly and are held to high professional standards.
-Growth and Advancement: While the team is small and it's unlikely you would ever receive a promotion in the classic sense, growth in your role is encouraged and fostered. Employees have the opportunity to propose projects and ideas and receive honest and helpful feedback to help realize those initiatives. While my title didn't change over five years, I was hired at $38k annual salary and left with a $60k annual salary.
-Working with Artists: The Curatorial Director is responsible for bringing new artists into the gallery, which typically means gathering information about their work, including pricing, before advocating for their addition to the Uprise Art roster to the rest of the team. Communicating regularly with the artists already in the gallery, as well as maintaining correspondence with those in the pipeline, can be very challenging, but also very rewarding. Most artists are very gracious and speak to the positive influence working with Uprise Art has made on their careers.
-Location: The Uprise Art loft is a bright and well-designed office with music, plants, and artwork. The loft has an open floor plan with a dedicated phone booth in the back for privacy. The loft is near the Canal Street MTA stop, so very accessible from the greater New York area.

-Hours & PTO: The gallery hours are 9 am - 6 pm, Monday-Friday, which totals to 45 hours each week. Put another away, every eight weeks you end up working an extra 40-hour work week, which does add up. Time off is flexible since there isn't a strict PTO policy, but this doesn't take into account the 45 hour work week or holidays that other companies might be closed, such as Martin Luther King Junior Day. At the end of the day, people can sometimes take feedback and criticism very personally because work spills into your personal life.
-Technology: Employees receive a company-issued laptop but you are expected to cover your own phone bill and wifi costs if you work from home.
-Healthcare and Employee Benefits: Apart from a flexible vacation policy, there are no employee benefits, like healthcare, equity, or 401k matching / retirement plans. Since almost every employee was hired before they turned 26 years old, it seems like something they can get away with since employees are generally still covered by their parents' health plan.
