Great place if you enjoy the city. A lot of the tasks were self-learned, because there wasn't any change-over. But most everyone on base was pretty helpful. It's the Gateway to the Air Force, so there are trainees everywhere. The end of the week each week is busier because of basic training graduations, but once you learn where to go and where to avoid it's not too bad. My leadership was great, though most of them were traditional Reservists, so I saw them usually only two days a month. The rest of the time I worked at my own pace, and most of the time it was pretty fast because I liked it that way. Medical facilities at Lackland were ok, but much better at Fort Sam Houston. Ft Sam is a teaching hospital, but the staff is very helpful and appointments are plentiful. But it is busy! San Antonio has a lot to offer, especially if you enjoy cities. Pretty much anything you enjoy in a warm climate is available there. private:usaf https://www.indeed.com/cmp/joint-base-san-antonio/reviews Sep 24th, 2019 12:00AM Open Open Joint Base San Antonio GS 0018 Safety and Occ Health Specialist Lackland AFB, TX USA Department of Defense military bases In order to assist veterans to be competitive and be able to obtain employment, great programs and laws enacted; however, as with all good intentions, civilians without veteran status (or veterans without being in the click) are being roadblocked by veterans who know the system and have buddies they know or were stationed with. This creates a bottleneck of old ways done the military way being brought back into a system that requires change but yet the very astute veteran who works the system gets hired, gets buddies in and the show is being run the same way. If you are a veteran and not part of the click or not agreeing with the show, you will not get the same opportunities. You cannot compete with three paychecks, military retirement check, disability check and not a good paying federal job. If you were an officer, you definitely may also get that high paid civil service job before you even retire.
