The concept of Verto is really great, and it's great to be a part of the student's experience. Many people who work for Verto are hard-working and inspiring. The pay is generally pretty good for contracted hours.
|
This company runs very much like a startup and seems to have a hidden money-hungry agenda behind the facade of their do-good mission. Overwork and undertrain employees, basically setting them up to fail

The people at Verto are amazing. Everyone is dedicated to helping students have the best time abroad and that is evident in the overwhelmingly positive student experience. My team is supportive and has helped me grow exponentially.

I've worked with some compassionate and caring individuals that are truly invested in trying to make a difference for students and provide education abroad options for them.

Verto had an opportunity to hire and retain talented and super-qualified employees due to the Covid-19 pandemic, and decided that supporting and providing training & development opportunities to these staff members was not beneficial to the organization. This means that past expertise is ignored, opportunities for professional development are not offered, and "best practices" developed by professional organizations (NAFSA, Forum on Education Abroad, NACADA, NACAC) are not part of standard procedure. * Student success and onboarding is treated like the "customer retention" line at Comcast. Canceling is simply not an option. * Too many policy decisions are made based on bad or anecdotal data. * Teams can be held accountable for outcomes that they do not have the ability to influence, thus leading to high staff turnover. * Leadership is often appointed rather than hired through a competitive external processes. There is no pathway for staff to advance beyond their original hired position.

Listen to and support your staff. Many of the missteps of this organization could have been avoided if voices lower in the organizational chart had been heard. Enshrine and practice the ethical principles that are already accepted in the field and give employees the ability to learn and expand their knowledge of these principles.

Truly worst job experience

the single pro of this job was meeting one of my dearest friends because we were both brought on after college and confided in each other about how horribly we were treated in this role
|
Horrendous leadership, I started this role at 22 and didn’t know what to expect from a startup - knowing what I do now, I would’ve quit on the first day after 8 hours of toxic work culture. I lasted only a month until the micro-managing resulted in me crying in the bathroom and asking to meet with management because I felt as though the organization was taking advantage of low-income students and making them pay for programs that weren’t set up for success in ANY way. They told me I could leave if I felt that way so I did, and the next day they told the rest of the staff I was laid off. The toxic masculinity of Mitch and Ben is something no woman, or anybody, should have to experience and I am sorry for the many other employees who have apparently had similar experiences as me. I hope this review can ensure that people save themselves from this nightmare. Also…the 5 star reviews are written by current employees who are TOLD to write them and the nearly 5 star review of Verto on Go Overseas is because they are managed by the same people.
