Nice people to work with! Coworkers all got along with each other.
|
Around 15 union employees were laid off because they needed to cut corners after horrendous spending throughout the years. Before they laid people off they didn't even know when their jobs were or how vital they were to the company. Stay away from this place as it will probably be gone in 6 months!!! No business plan and the management is clueless and everything is done sneakily behind closed doors. They do not value their employees.

Iconic brand. Great environment - laid back even though people work extremely hard. The majority of the staff is passionate about VV and it shows in their work. The editorial and business staff are all a wonderful group of people. The editor in chief is a fantastic storyteller and has an exciting vision for the brand. There is a new head of business and she has vast experience in newspapers and sales. Seems to be a great leader. It's an exciting time to see where & how the brand will continue to grow!
Good perks - even the small ones such as unlimited snacks, coffee & beverages are appreciated by all of us.

Clueless, greedy, immature management (new CEO is Peter Barbey, btw)
Upper levels have no idea what they're doing — just yes-men who haven't had jobs in publishing in years, and for obvious reasons. CEO and publisher actively, regularly interfere in editorial content. Could they have maybe considered putting people in charge who have ANY experience in weeklies, or even newspapers? Everyone else struggles under micromanagement and constant moving of goalposts. Just another billionaire who thinks he and his "let's make up a job for him" son were born on third and hit a triple — Barbey blames others when he can't make this paper profitable, and pretends like he has any interest in maintaining an iconic brand when all he wants is to be considered "cool" by the very culture he's diluting.
