A good company in general, but also over-rated

People are very friendly and helpful, some team managers are amazing, the salary is high compared to other companies, there are a lot of benefits, the general atmosphere is that of openness and interpersonal transparency.
|
Very poor communication form engineering management about decision making. Some changes were introduced, then cancelled, then re-introduced without a proper reasoning and explanation what is going on, which creates atmosphere of instability. Some roles are not clearly defined and that leads to heavy workload. The burn-out is a big topic among employees. All of these cons seem like a consequence of poor management above team managers.

Despite being touted as a values-driven company, actions speak louder than words, with profit taking precedence over employee well-being.
The pervasive micromanagement stifles innovation, while dissenting voices are silenced under the guise of being 'toxic'. Burnout is rampant due to inflexible policies and a lack of understanding from management. Decision-making is sluggish, with favoritism evident at every turn.
In short, Vinted's Berlin branch is a breeding ground for discontent, with a toxic culture fueled by a lack of diversity, inexperienced managers, and a callous disregard for employee welfare. Toxic managers with fancy diplomas from prestigious universities reign supreme, despite their lack of real-world experience and understanding of operational processes. Their incompetence creates a toxic work environment, where bullying and favoritism run rampant. The lack of empathy and open-mindedness exacerbates the situation, leading to widespread discontent among employees. Layoffs are frequent, adding to the stress and overwhelming workload. Colleagues are often mean to each other, further contributing to the toxic atmosphere. The constant fear of job insecurity only adds to the pressure, resulting in a toxic cycle of negativity. With employees stretched thin and morale at an all-time low, the office has become a breeding ground for stress and resentment.

Applying for the position of Anti-Counterfeit Associate at Vinted was an exercise in frustration and disappointment. From the onset, the hiring process was convoluted and lacking in transparency. The initial interview was standard, but things quickly took a turn for the worse when candidates were handed a vague "homework" task without proper instructions. This task involved identifying replica products—a skill set that was neither outlined as a requirement for the position nor adequately supported with resources or guidance.
To make matters worse, after the interview, candidates were expected to undergo a 10-week learning period to identify replica products. The absurdity of this demand cannot be overstated—how can one be expected to properly identify counterfeit goods without prior experience or sufficient training?
The "homework" task itself was a nightmare, requiring hours of fruitless searching online for information that should have been provided by Vinted. Despite investing significant time and effort, candidates were met with aggressive and disrespectful feedback from HR, citing inadequate explanations and lack of depth in their submissions. Such unprofessional behavior from HR is inexcusable and speaks volumes about the company culture.
As if the arduous hiring process wasn't enough, Vinted also expects candidates to perform a short word presentation for one of the chosen teams and endure a "try out day" where they work for free. This exploitation of labor is unacceptable and further underscores Vinted's disregard for the well-being of its potential employees.
In conclusion, I strongly advise against considering Vinted as an employer. The company's hiring practices are nonsensical, disrespectful, and ultimately indicative of a toxic work environment. Save yourself the trouble and look elsewhere for opportunities where your skills and efforts will be valued and respected.

RUN AWAY! I witnessed bullying, silent lay offs, and burn outs.

My pay was good, colleagues at the Berlin and Amsterdam offices were nice.

It's not the company you think it is. If you want a company to take all your energy and you confidence, then it will be the right place to go.
I have witnessed many cases of bullying from leads and directors to their direct reports, you can see on Glassdoor many people reported it! I also saw cases of racism, on slack, in front of everyone. HR DID NOTHING. They even told me "we are conscious that they are culture differences between the Berlin and the Vilnius offices" what does that even mean? You are aware of the problem but prefer to close your eyes?
They are very risk averse and it takes MONTHS to take a simple decision. There are also many cases of micro management, that's why many people loose their energy and confidence after some time.
The Vilnius offices is not very welcoming of non Lithuanian people.
The CMO should not be at this position, he is making everyone under him burning out, and those directors are burning outs their direct reports, it's a vicious cycle. It's very much a place where you need to save yourselves and protect yourselves from others.
Even nice people will turn their back on you.
I also saw a lot of favoritism.
Lastly, I would not trust everything they say about sustainability.

Work on your insecurities instead of burning out your reports.
Stop being so risk averse, of course you can use data to back up your decisions, but we all know in life that sometimes we need to take risks, especially in business.
Stop closing your eyes on the bullying cases, you know it's happening.
