I've thoroughly enjoyed working at WayFM because it's been a place where I can thrive, and help others thrive as well. I love that we've been in the process of implementing a new company-wide operating system based on the EOS. We call it the WayOS. It provides additional clarity, purpose, intentionality to our actions, and accountability. Even though nowhere is perfect, WayFM is a place where we are encouraged to make things better.

As with any organization that has multiple locations, it has its challenges. Oftentimes, the different departments are a bit siloed, but there has been significant progress toward doing things more cohesively and I believe it will keep getting better.

Outside consulting is needed to help executive team see blind spots. Leadership is listening to the wrong voices and influences. They are out of touch with the listening audience, especially during a season of political and cultural chaos.

Very friendly and welcoming staff on my immediate team. I wish that the organization as a whole was more healthy.

Toxic culture, especially at the senior leadership level. This trickles down to the middle management and lower levels. It is hard to come to work everyday when you are marginalized and not listened to.

Compensation is weak unless you are in senior management. Senior leadership team actively undermines the CEO, and yet the CEO is blind to it. This results in a poor culture, especially for those on the front lines doing the grunt work. The IT department is dysfunctional. The content department in Nashville is more focused on furthering their “woke”, progressive agenda, producing empty content, then they are with furthering the gospel and changing our culture.

Field offices strive to be a ministry. Great listeners.
|
If you’re in good graces with the right people, your future is bright, but if you question any decisions, you time may be shortened. Corporate office is a bad environment, toxic from management down. Definitely a “good ole boys” mentality company wide. Not many females in upper management and very little respect for women in the “industry.” Field office management grows stagnant and needs to revamp their ways and be open to change. Low pay, looking for young, cheap labor right out of college.

Value your employees and reevaluate upper management. Make business decisions while also learning to love people and show grace. It is a ministry after all. Be open to change and stop doing things as they’ve always been done. Think outside of the box. And by all means please SUPPORT your staff with adequate resources and don’t run them into the ground.

WAY-FM - a great place to work!

The staff at WAY-FM are real and authentic...we are encouraged to live out our faith in Christ and to hold each other accountable. We have one common goal...to share Christ with others. It's great to work at a place where you know that management supports and cares about the employees. Our leaders are kind and considerate and always looking to improve and change what isn't working. The on air staff are genuine and bring fun into the day! I would recommend WAY-FM as a great place to work!

Because WAY-FM is a non-profit, salaries may not always be on par with those in the for profit world. But WAY-FM strives to offer excellent benefits!

Organization needs several changes - specifically with management
|

The shows we air - The Wally Show, Carlos and Joy - are great. And the community involvement most of our stations have in their communities is wonderful. Hopeful that a CEO change coming soon will be positive.
|
Dysfunctional top leadership and management contribute to poor workplace culture and low to nonexistent morale. Management says they are for the employees but almost every decision they make is contradictory to that, especially at company headquarters in Colorado. I do not and will not recommend this organization to anyone looking for a job, not unless things change drastically.

All departments need to be re-evaluated and some need leadership changes - the major administrative departments of the org need a new COO. The company is hiring a new CEO and the outgoing CEO should not be allowed to have any involvement with the org through Board Member participation or otherwise for a minimum of one year to give the org a chance to transition well with a new CEO.

The Wally Show

The Wally Show is an excellent radio broadcast to work or intern for. I mainly setup the outboard gear and media programming for the morning show. I met several AC artist and interacted with nearly that called in to the show. I loved it.
|
The con to working on the Wally Show is that you will get coned into all kinds of science experiments. I have been sprayed with aerosol deodorant, made to eat ice cream with pepper on top and I've even tried the cinnamon challenge. So if you don't want to become a science project or be the butt of every joke this is not the place for you.
