A typical day for me at work is hard labor. I learned how to communicate more and work with different people. The environment there is very productive and very neat. The hardest part of this job is the very harsh weather conditions, but the most enjoyable part is communicating and working well with others. The pay is awesome. It was a high pressure job with short deadlines which kept the job interesting and enjoyable. Many time had the opportunity to work down at the docks distributing safety equipment and drug testing. When work is plenteous there's money to be made. A typical day is almost always dealing with inclement weather. However, in the daytime, as a longshoreman can make in upwards of $16- $22 hourly. However, at nighttime, the pay scale changes to $30 an hours depending on where you're working. Its dog eats dog everywhere you go. You have to make the best of it for yourself and stay away from the naysayers. Starting from the bottom at ILA 24 is not easy, but you can't give up. Hang in there, especially if you are an ex-con. Ex-cons can make more money at Locals 24, 28, and 1351 than many of our white-collar workers. Get the job, stay focused and do the job so that your cash flow is unimpeded. Naysayers are everywhere. Some people are bitter, disgruntled and feel entitled. These are the same people who'll get you to join an uprising to stage an unnecessary coup. No, they're attention seekers. Stay away from these people and govern yourself. If you seek information, seek it from a seasoned, anchored, mild tempered individual so that you will not be lead astray. If you'll be patient and hang in there, you can make more money than you've ever made in your life. Negative people breed contempt, worry and incessant complaining.
