Productive and rewarding place to work
|
On a typical day of work I am responsible for creating all curriculum, lecture prepartion and classroom management for my students.
I have learned to multi task, keep an organized communication between multiple people and improvise when difficult situations come up.
I have the workplace culture be a place where I can foster learning and cater to anyones different learning styles.
The hardest part of the job is to make sure all students are challenged to their appropriate technical and learning abilities.
The most enjoyable part of the job is creatng an increased level of interest and passion in the subject matter. Also to see people connect the class material to other important aspects of their life.

Great way to make money as a student. Doesn’t necessarily bring in much money but helps to build technical and interpersonal skills. The staff is friendly and welcoming.

Great faculity, staff and students
|
The most rewarding part of this profession is working the students. Their are very long work days, and often times I had to work 7 days per week to get all of the tasks done each week. I get to work with some amazing staff and faculty. I love the little town of Buckhannon, where the college is located. The school does provide great tuition benefits for full time employees.

I was able to do my homework, interact with others, learn other positions, monitor the test lab, I enjoyed not sitting behind a desk all day long because the supervisor allowed us to walk arouns.

An Interesting Experience
|
Wesleyan is a place where you are pushed to succeed, and as an RA you're expected to be a role model and push yourself harder. Speaking from a purely professional viewpoint, this is probably the worst job I've ever worked. They fully expect that 2-3 days you will be okay with working a 14-hour shift (taking into account that this is a student position). the position is purely bureaucratic which means that you hold no real power, however, most of the residents believe that you do. The compensation for it, despite the huge amount of social justice momentum on campus (that only serves to make the position more difficult), is minuscule. The other colleges in the state offer 2 to 3 times the payment for half the work.
However, this job also functioned like a paid internship. It taught communication, how to work with management, and how to work a complex, high-stress environment that is constantly changing. The experience, though from a professional standpoint was awful, is one I will never forget and will remember, for the most part, fondly.
